Responding to a review
of technical skills pro-
vided for Israel's needs by
the Technion, the Israel
Institute of Technology,
outlined by the Technion
president, Gen. Shaul
Horev (Res.), a group of
local Technion affilates
inaugurated a
scholarship fund for the
technical school in Haifa,
Israel.
Gen. Horev spoke to the
Technion leaders Monday
evening at the home of
the Mr. and Mrs. Louis
Milgrim. Milgrim is pres-
ident of the Detroit
Technion Chapter.
Voicing confidence in
Israel's ability to defend
herself, and stating that
the nation is now well
equipped with military
skills and supplies, Gen.
Horez pointed to the
great danger in the pre-
sent economic difficulti-
es. He emphasized the
need for skilled techni-
cians and described how

Harry T. Madison,
Jewish War Veterans
past national comman-
der, will attend the na-
tional policy committee
meeting Dec. 4 in Balti-
more. Jack Schwartz of
the national executive
committee and a past de-
partment of Michigan
commander, also will at-
tend.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis
(Rose) Berman of
Brentwood Dr., Troy,
were honored recently by
their children and grand-
children at a champagne
brunch at the Michigan
Inn on the occasion of
their 40th wedding
anniversary. Their chil-
dren are Dr. Warren B.
Berman, Leslie A. Be-
rman, Dr. and Mrs.
Michael A. Biederman
and Dr. and Mrs. Michael
J. Berman. Guests in-
cluded Mrs. Berman's sis-
ter, Mrs. Sylvia Tenen-
berg of Los Angeles, and
Mrs. Ida Berman, Mr.
Berman's mother. The
couple have three grand-
children.

Pianist Kottler
Earns Honors

Mischa Kottler, noted
pianist and Wayne State
University Music De-
partment faculty
member, was honored
with a Distinguished Fa-
culty Service Award from
WSU Thursday in Ford
Auditorium.
Kottler was the fea-
tured soloist with the De-
troit Symphony Or-
chestra in a performance
of Rachmaninoff's Piano
Concerto No. 3. Kottler
also was saluted by the
city of Detroit with an
honorary resolution from
Mayor Coleman Young
declaring Nov. 18 "Mis-
cha Kottler Day" in De-
troit. The concert will be
repeated Saturday.

Technion graduates pro-
vide the necessary skills.
He said that 1,500 are
graduated from the vari-
ous Technion departments
each year, from both the
engineering and medical
schools, the present
Technion student enroll-
ment being 6,000. He
pointed to the vision that
has been displayed in or-
ganization far in advance
of what was believed its
needs the aeronautical de-
partment, and he de-
clared that without it there
would not have developed
the aeronautical industry
which now provides neces-
sary planes for Israel and
for support.
Milgrim defined the ac-
tivities of the local chap-
ter in his presentation of
the guest, who was ac-
companied there by Mrs.
Horev.
Sam Rich spoke briefly

regarding the needs for
scholarships. The enrol-
lees pledged for indi-
vidual scholarships, in
amounts of $700, and per-
petual scholarships in
amounts of $700, and per-
petual scholarships in
amounts of $10,000.
Louis Levitan, former
manager of the Israel
Bonds office here, now
executive vice president
of the American Technion
Society, also addressed
the gathering with an
outline of Technion needs
and accomplishments,
and he stated that tuition
fees nearly doubled at the
Technion out of necessity
occasioned by the na-
tion's economic situation.
But it was emphasized
that able students are
never deprived of the
education at Technion
which is so vital in provid-
ing skilled technicians for
Isarel.
