Bnai Brith Housing
WASHINGTON (JTA)
— Bnai Brith has been
granted federal approval
to construct two more
senior citizens housing
complexes, one in Hous-
ton and one in Peroria, Ill.
Officials of the Depart-
ment of Housing and
Urban Development, par-
ticipating in a workshop
at the organization's
biennial convention, an-
nounced HUD authoriza-
tion for the $3.5 million
high-rise projects, each
with 100 rental units.
Abe Cramer, chairman_
of the Bnai Brith senior
citizens housing commit-
tee, said he anticipated
final HUD authorization
to double the Peoria pro-
ject to 200 one-bedroom
and efficiency apart-
ments, and increase the
Houston project to 150
units. He said the total
cost would then be $9.5
million for both projects.
JNF Honors
Dutch Hero
JERUSALEM (JTA) —
The Jewish National
Fund has dedicated a
2,000-tree forest in mem-
ory of Fritz Kuiper, a
member of the Dutch
anti-Nazi underground,
who helped save the lives
of many Jews.
Kuiper was active dur-
ing World War II in ac-
tions to save Dutch
Jewry, an action in which
many of his relatives took
part. Two of his nephews
were executed by the
Nazis.
He published a periodi-
cal "All of Israel," and a
popular book "Israel and
the Gentiles," after the
end of World War II.
