Morton Collins, presi- dent of the association, which is supervising and supporting Haverim House for the retarded on Evergreen, this week re- called the support the group has given to Brodhead's successful efforts to a ssure in- creased supp .rt for re- tarded youths and adults. Collins' statement said, "The Associa. ion con- gratulates Coi zressman Brodhead for his efforts on behalf of the retarded citizens of this commu- nity." His staff worked for more than a year to shepherd the bill through Congress. A nationally operating survey committee analyzed Rep. Brodhead's rating as 100 percent in matters relating to the Middle East and Israel. Brodhead lists more than 30 actions in his two years in Congress sup- porting Israel and Soviet Jewry. "Although Con- gressman Brodhead's bill is not everything that we of the Association had hoped for, it certainly is a step in the right direction," Col- lins said, " and will serve to encourage retarded adults not in need of con- stant supervision to live in small residential settings which attempt to nor- malize the residents' envi- ronment and utilize exist- ing community services."
