Freih Air Dinner Celebration Due at Jewish Center Nov. 6

The Fresh Air Society
and Camp Tamarack will
mark its 75th anniver-
sary with a dinner celeb-
ration 7 p.m. Nov. 6 at the
main Jewish Community
Center.
Since its inception in
1902, the Fresh Air Soci-
ety has provided young
Jewish people with en-
riching recreational and
educational experiences
through a residential
camp program. The FAS
presently has two major
camping facilities at
Brighton and Ortonville,
totalling nearly 1,54.0
acres, as well as several
outpost camps in north-
ern Michigan and
Canada.
Former campers from
as far as Texas and Mary-
land have shown interest
in the anniversary celeb-
ration, said FAS presi-
dent Robert Kasle.
Organizing the anniver-
sary celebration are
Michael W. Aladdin and
Donna Slatkin, co-
chairmen of the commun-
ity relations committee.
Mr. and Mrs. Sidney J.
Winer are program chair-
men for the dinner.

New Greenhouse
Guide Is Issued

A new guide to guide to
building, buying and
maintaining a home
greenhouse has been is-
sued by 101 Productions
Press of San Francisco.
"Greenhousing for Pur-
ple Thumbs" is a collab-
oration by two of Ameri-
ca's leading plant au-
thorities, DX Fenten, the
award-winning "Week-
end Gardener" in News-
day Magazine and author
of 10 other gardening
books, and Maggie Baylis,
who wrote a illustrated
the best-selling "House
Plants for the Purple
Thumb."
There are chapters on
growing vegetables
under glass, flowering
plants, foliage plants, or-
chids and cacti. A section
"Try It You'll Like It," in-
troduces unusual
greenhouse projects:
jungle cacti, insect-
eating plants, forcing
bulbs, hydroponic gar-
dening, growing plants
from pits, seeds or nuts
and more.

Rabin Advocates
Revealing Failures

TEL AVIV (ZINS) —
"It's high time that we
begin to talk openly about
our failures and short
comings," said Premier
Yitzhak Rabin at a meet-
ing celebrating the 25th
anniversary of the found-
ing of Kiryat Malachi.
The Prime Minister de-
clared that only by open
discussion of the coun-
try's mistakes and fail-
ures could one expect
improvement and prog-
ress. Rabin called upon
his fellow Israelis to work
harder and to consume
less.
The premier also ad-
monished the nation's
school teachers for their
insisting on higher wages
while resisting longer
teaching schedules.

Hebrew U., ORT Join Forces
in New School for Engineers

Former University of
Michigan Dean William
Faber, now adviser to the
U-M executive officers,
returning from another
of his numerous visits to
Israel, this week reported
on a new and very vital
Israeli project.
Dr. Haber, who was ac-
companied on his most
recent trip to Israel by his
wife, Fannie, describes
the development of an
ORT school designed as
"a junior college and to
train not only craftsmen
but craftsmen who will
become applied en-
gineers."

cuit Court bench for 17

JERUSALEM (ZINS)
— The mineral waters of
the Dead Sea are an ex-
cellent treatment for
rheumatism, according to
a study done by a group of
doctors under the leader-
ship of Dr. Israel Masti of
Hasharon hospital.
The research was done
with 50 rheumatic pa-
tients, including some
foreign tourists. All of the
sufferers from
rheumatism were given a
special treatment in the
waters of the Dead Sea
for a 10-day period.
Everyone of them re-
ceived a thorough exami-
nation before and after
the 10-day treatment. It
was found that all of the
patients showed signifi-
cant improvement as a
result of the treatment.

Israel, Portugal
Reach Accord

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Israel and Portugal have
agreed to cooperate in the
establishment of an ag-
ricultural training sys-
tem in the latter country
to promote the moderni-
zation of its agriculture.
The agreement was
reached during the visit
here last week of the Por-
tuguese Minister of Ag-
riculture, Antonio Lopes
Cardoso, who was the
guest of Israeli Agricul-
ture Minister Aharon
Uzan. Uzan is expected to
visit Portugal at a later
date.
An Israeli study and
research mission will
leave for Portugal shortly
to meet with local au-
thorities to prepare a
joint program of ac-
tivities.
