THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

Danny Raskin's

LISTENING
POST

IT WAS ALMOST 25
years ago that Eileen
Goldman and Flora
Schwartz hadn't seen
each other . . . but it was
a big get-together once
they did . . . All the "old
crowd" that had pivoted
around the "Calvert
girls" of 30 years ago were
invited to Eileen's birth-
day luncheon . . . with
the lassies talking of old
times, looking at aged pic-
tues and showing pies of
grown-up children . . .
Another excuse for all to
get together comes up
Nov. 12 . . . when the
same gang will be invited
to Eileen's house in celeb-
ration of Flora and Iris
Sandler's birthdays.
QUITE A GREAT birth-
day present for State
Rep. Joe Forbes . . . even
better than getting
elected president . . .
daughter Rita and son-
in-law Howard Golding
giving him and wife Rena
the best gift of all . . . a
granddaughter named
Jamie.
BEST BET OF THE
Weekend . . "Good 01'
Days" dance ofyes-
teryears by Mr. and Mrs.
Group, City of Hope, to-
morrow night at Cong.
Bnai David . . . Buddy
Nathanson, 547-5935, has
tickets.
REASON WHY Bella
and Israel Taines are
coming to the ex-home
town is for wedding this
Sunday at Raleigh
House, of Sidonie Fenton,
daughter of niece and
nephew May and Dave
Fenton, to Neal Stone,
son of Bess and Phil Stone
. . . Mickey Taines is ac-
companying his parents
here from Florida for the
shindig.
DON'T KNOW HOW we
could forget . . . Last
Friday was son Scott's
15th birthday . . . Any-
way, lots of belated con-
grats to a real nice young
man we're very proud of.
21 YEARS AGO, several
mothers with asthmatic
children in the northwest
area around James Ver-
nor School, asked
neighbors to help . . .
Eight of them did by or-
ganizing the Northwest
Detroit Chapter of
CARIH - The National
Asthma Center . . . The
group now has 50 mem-
bers and is looking for
more folks to join . . . A
"Lucite Party" at Anne
Shapiro's home in Oak
Park is set for Nov. 10 . .
More info, call Faye 01-
shansky, 557-8137.
GOT ANY FRIENDS in
the hospital? . . . If so,
visit them . . . You'll
never know how much it
means . . . Your coming
to see them is unbottled
medicine . . . Hours in
the hospital seem twice as
long, and its boring re-
gimentation welcomes
the freshness of visita-
tions.
ON HIS FIRST visit to
the zoo recently, little

Avery Marcus, son of
Shirley and Ray M#rcus,
stared at a stork for a
while, then turned to Ray
and said, "Gee, dad, he
doesn't recognize me."
CALLING . . . Morrie
Felsenfeld . . . Re-
member back in 1947
while having dinner at
Harry Lichter's home
when you were presented
with a surprise in the
form of a pair of patent
leather shoes? . . . They
were the ones you had
loaned Harry to be mar-
ried in . . . nine years be-
fore.
HERE IS A DIG that
dug deep . . . reported by
local community lass who
attended a recent house
party . . . Most of the
folks were leaving and
one fellow who had
crashed the affair bid
goodbye to the hostess
and thanked her for the
fun . . . "I'm glad you en-
joyed it - remind me to
ask you next time," she
cordially replied.
NICE TO SEE Char-
lotte and Harold Dubin
looking so good . . . The
local lovers left Detroit
for a stay in Israel .
and are back in town
doing public relations
work.
LAST WEEK, Roy Eiser
looked up from his news-
paper in time to see wife
Ruth dashing out of the
front door . . . "Going
shopping?" he called after
her . . . "I haven't got
time," she called back.
"I'm just going to get a
few things."
REGARDS FROM . . .
Emily Brown in Los
Angeles . . . Emily asks
about the Detroit club out
there . . . "Impossible to
make connections" . . .
Its called The Madison
Club . . . We'll find out
who the person is to con-
tact.
ESTHER
ELLEN,
five-year-old daughter of
Gloria and Sy Lieber,
caught Pop between the
eyes last week when she
asked, "Daddy, do you
think mommy knows
much about bringing up
children?" . . . "Why do
you ask that?" asked Sy
. . . "Well," said little Et-
tie, "she makes me go to
sleep when I'm wide
awake and she makes me
get up when I'm awfully
sleepy."
RHONDA FLEMING
will be the Hollywood
celebrity guest at the De-
troit Businessmen's
Group, City of Hope, din-
ner-dance, Nov. 14, at
Raleigh House.
