The lecture is open to the public without charge. Women will be the focus of Hadassah Education Day to take place Nov. 16. The two speakers are Sonya Michel, co-author of the Jewish Woman in America," and Ted Berkman, author of "The Lady and The Law." Author of "Brothers," Zeldis was born in Buf- falo, N.Y., in 1927. He at- tended the University of Michigan on a creative writing scholarship for two years, and while there, he won an Avery Hopwood Award in poetry. In 1948, during the War of Independence, he settled in Israel, where he lived on kibutzim and in various agricultural settlements. He served in the Israeli armed forces in the Sinai campaign of 1956. He re- turned to the U.S. in 1958 and graduated from the New School for Social Re- search, winning the John Day Novel Award there. A graduate of Barnard College, anti holder of a master's degree from San Francisco State, Mrs. Michel has held a variety of jobs in publishing, and has been active in the wo- men's movement since 1969, helping to orgAnize women's centers in New York and Poughkeepsie. Berkman is a historical chronicler and screen- writer. His earliest books in- clude "Cast a Giant Shadow," the Oppie Award winning "To Seize the Passing Dream," and "Sabra," about the citizen-soldiers of the Six-Day War. As a screen writer, he holds a Christ- opher Award for "Fear Strikes Out," and his radio commentaries in the 1940's for the ABC network included the first eye-witness account of the King David Hotel explosion_in Jerusalem.
