IT IS NOT TOO rare for
a person to feel like a good
chopped sirloin steak
dinner . . . or a good
chopped sirloin sandwich
. . . And in so many in-
stances, people will hop in
the car and drive any dis-
tance to get these fares.
We are a "hamburger
nut" but pretty particu-
lar when it comes to hav-
ing them.
No need to go- driving
all over town when one of
the best chopped - sirloin
steaks and sandwiches
are in our close-by vicin-
ity . . . accompanied by
so many other plus fac-
tors for fine dining.
The place we're talking
about is Topinka's Coun-
try House, owned by Al
Balooley, on W. Seven
Mile Rd. and Telegraph
. . . We had both of them
in the same week . . . and
will certainly go back
again and again.
Our dinner waitress,
smiling, pleasant and
very attentive Annette
Gunderlock, truly a top
notcher in her field,
brought us a chopped sir-
loin steak that was delici-
ous to the very last piece
. . . On the side, Annette
had some thick gravy,
with oodles of mushrooms
in it . . . We also enjoyed
the very good pancake
style hash browns.
A few days later, we
went back to Topinka's
Country House and had a
chopped sirloin sandwich
. . with onion rings and
French fries . ... Like the
chopped steak, Topinka's
meat was juicy, cooked
exactly as we like it, and
so tasty as to make a dor-
mant taste bud spring to
life again with fervent
vigor.
Appearing in the Ter-
race Lounge at Topinka's
Country House, is popu-
lar Ami Jackson at the .
piano . . . with vocals
that exude with talented
precision . . . Ami is
never alone at the piano
. . . always talking to
people with her joyful
smile and winning per-
sonality . . . She makes
folks happy and clings to
every note with rhythmic
feeling.
Topinka's
Country
House is certainly among
the warmest, coziest and
most intimate dining
houses of its size any-
where . . . It seats about
350 in an atmosphere of
ultra-delightful pleasan-
try..
Like so many other
things life, Topinka's
Country House is taken
more or less for granted
. . . Actually, in our ex-
periences there, it rates
with the finest dining
snots in the midwest . . .
e service is always ex-
cellent, . . . food consis-
tently good . . . and
prices not out of line.
Cleanliness is a big
thing With owner Al
Balooley, and he trans-
mits his feelings toward it
into every nook and
cranny of his restaurants
. . both on W. Grand
Blvd. and at the Country
House . . . wherepatrons
may dine in the Fireside
Lounge dining room or
Rondell Terrace with
•canopy . . . The second
level Terrace Lounge
where Ami plays, is a
cocktail and sandwich
area . . . but she can be
seen and heard through-
out the entire- open area
of Topinka's County
House.
Soon this very fine spot
will as every year be deco-
rated for the 'Yuletide sea-
son like no other nitery
indeed a magical
showplace for all to see.
If you're taking Topin-
ka's Country House for
granted . . . take a tip
and don't pass it by when
planning your next din-
ner out.
BENNO'S restaurant
on the east side's Agnes
Ave., has lost more
community-ites as cus-
tomers . . . Latest are Dr.
Ben and Marian Stein,
Seymour and Fern Sol-
omon and Dr. Sol and Mil-
lie Dresner ... Also, sit-
ting at another table and
overhearing the incident
were Jack and Faye
Beckwith, who have cal-
led it quits never eating
again at Benno's . . .
Seems that Ben ordered a
chateaubriand ... it came
cold . . . and he sent it
back ... The meat was re-
turned with only • the
plate warm . . . Ben sent it
back again ... Owner
Benno "stormed" over
and said, "We don't warm
meat more than once"
and intimated that they
were not welcome. Shock-
ing and most disturbing!
PARKING ALL OVER
is free on Sundays at the
Rialto Cafe, Woodward
and Nirie Mile . . . includ-
ing a large municipal lot
in back . . The stipend
meter parking during the
week is well worth it con-
sidering the low prices on
food being served by
Charlie and Frank Pap-
pas . . . It's been like this
for a long time and many
folks have discovered the
bargains worth at Rialto
Cafe.
FLYIN' EASY opened
at Hurley's in the North-
field Hilton Inn, Crooks
Rd., exit of 1-75, Troy . . .
for a two-week engage-
ment last Monday . . .
featuring lead vocalist
Dolores Davis . . . The
repertoire of Flyin' Easy
takes in all musical tastes
from upbeat disco to slow,
dreamy ballads . . . all
geared for dancing and
listening . . . The group
performs Monday
through Saturday.
THE NAME OF THE re-
staurants, Magic Pan
Creperies, is taken from
the patented wheel that
rotates over a gas flame,
carrying crepe pans
turned upside down . . .
The outside of each pan is
dipped in batter and
placed on the wheel . . .
After one revolution, the
crepe is perfectly cooked
and ready for any of more
than 21 fillings.
The eateries opened
Wednesday at Fairlane
Town Center and Some-
rset Mall . . . Magic Pan
crepes are described as
