N. African Jews
Seek Voice in Body

TEL AVIV (JTA) — The
leader of North African
Jews in Israel has de-
manded increased rep-
resentation for that
group in the Jewish
Agency and the various
political parties.
Shaul Ben Simhon,
chairman of the execu-
tive committee of the
World Movement of
North African Jewry,
said recognition should
be based on their numeri-
cal weight and on their
dedication to Zionism.
Addressing the first
meeting of the executive
committee, Ben Simhon
accused the Israeli news
media of spreading false
reports that some North
African Jews have left Is-
rael to return to Morocco.
He said the fact is that
not a single Jew has gone
to Morocco.
Defense Minister Shi-
mon Peres, a guest
speaker, called on North
African Jewry in Israel to
assume responsibility for
aliya. Aliya has declined

has not," he said

Rabbi Kahane Says He'll Join
NRP and Move to Kiryat Arba

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Rabbi Meir Kahane,
founder of the Jewish De-
fense League, said that
he would join the Na-
tional Religious Party
and move to Kiryat Arba,
the Orthodox community
adjacent to Hebron.
Kahane said his pur-
pose was to "spur on the
religious-nationalist
groupings to continuous
settlement of the Land of
Israel."
He said he would urge
the Kiryat Arba settlers
to "more extreme" posi-
tions than those oftheir
leader, Rabbi Moshe
Levinger, with the inten-
tion of convincing the
Arabs to get out of Heb-
ron.
Kahane was scheduled
to arrive in the United
States for a 10-week
speaking tour aimed at
creating a "lobby" of
American Jews to pres-
sure the Israeli govern-
ment to change its policies
on basic issues.
He said he would also
advance his plan to create
a fund to pay Israeli
Arabs to emigrate and
that he would disclose
plans to boycott certain
Jewish agencies to make
sure that Jewish funds
are directed "only to
Jewish causes."
Meanwhile, Sheikh
Mohammed Ali Al
Jaabari, the former
mayor of Hebron,
suggested that residents
of Hebron meet with their
Jewish neighbors of
Kiryat Arba in order to
restore life to normal.
In an interview with the
Israeli daily, Yediot Ac-
hronot, Jaabari said there
was no point in trying to
