The volunteers, along with HIAS professional staff members under the direction of Paul Barash, meet every planeload of Jewish refugees arriving at Kennedy Airport. They greet the refugee families following their in- . Margaret Schwartz, executive director of the HIAS Women's Division, praised the work of. the volunteers in helping to steer the refugees through the confusion at the airport. "The immigrants be- nefit greatly," she said. "When they see a warm, smiling face, when they are greeted in Russian, all their fears about this country are alleviated."
