MICHIGAN
Railroad
Depot in Ann Arbor, once
heralded as "the finest
station between Buffalo
and Chicago'', deserves
that commendation now
more than ever as the ex-
panded and improved
Gandy Dancer restaur-
ant.
Owner Chuck Muer has
completed his 3,000 sq. ft.
expansiOn and restora-
tion of the restaurant,
which he originally
opened in 1970.
The old baggage .room
has been restored and the
baggage platform en-
closed to add 100 seats to
the restaurant, formerly
seating 125.
Built in 1886, the station
was designed in a
Romanesque `style ... Its
massive, two-foot-thick
walls of vari-colored
Michigan granite and in-
tricate trim and window
detail have made the sta-
tion a famous architec-
tural landmark as well as a
popular restaurant.
It is on both the Michi-
gan and National Regis-
ter of Historic Places.
The old baggage room,
of the same ston'e and
trim as the station house,
seats 40 diners ... It con-
tains the original bag-
gage scale.
The name Gandy
Dancer comes from the
name applied to workmen
who maintain the rail--
road tracks, ties and bed
of "the road." . . . It is
open for lunch Monday
through Friday ... and
dinner seven days a
week.
A DAY IN ADVANCE
notice is needed for both
Jar Dee Gui (Cantonese
fried chicken) and Sui Op
(Cantonese roast duck) at
Hoa Kow Inn on W. Nine
Mile in Oak Park.
MAIL DEPT. ... from
Marcella and Dan Moody
at Paradiso Cafe on
Woodward ... "We were
very gratified to note how
many people read not
only your informative
weekly columns but also
the ads., Both yesterday
and today we had many
calls asking if we had
stopped serving our
lovely Sunday buffet
since our ad in the Sept.
24th edition read "Closed
Sundays. - We are, of
course, very much open
not only for the brunch
and dinner buffet but we
are also doing loads of
Sunday showers, sweet-
sixteens and family get- .
togethers in our private
banquet rooms.
"We also want to thank
our many daily, weekly
and monthly patrons who
have continued to come to
our Detroit restaurant in
spite of the media's fright
impact. Fortunately, our
area is calm and peaceful
and our customers tell us
that our well-lighted lots
with efficient parking at-
tendants, coupled with-
our courteous waitresses
and consistently good
food at moderate prices, is
what keeps them coming
back. Bless them, we love
them all and will be here
MON., TUES. & WED. ONLY
for many more years to
service and please the pa-
lates of our clear friends."

TALK ABOUT
HOUSEWARMINGS ...
even some of the
neighbors were burning
. . . no doubt not so much
the noise, but not being
invited (most of them
were) to George Young's
funfilled house-warming
party at his home "pad"
in Southfield . . . Natur-
ally, George had his
"Youngsters" band there
. . plus all sorts of en-
tertainment, songsters,
belly dancers, etc., plenty
of foOd and drinks . . .
and lots of nice people.
George and The
Youngsters, one of the
most entertaining groups
in the country, are ap :-
pearing with their very
versatile ways at the Gol-
den Spur in Southgate.
DAVID FEKAY, assis-
tant manager at Town
and COuntry Club in
Southfield, is author of
the book making big
winds, "Sensuous
Kitchen."
KEY INGREDIENT of
program by ERASE (Eat
Right and Slim Easily) is
providing a food schedule
custom-designed to a
member's life style . . . A
couple of ERASE recipes
are:
Golden French Fried
Potatoes ... 4 oz. sliced
potatoes (French style),
salt and pepper to taste,
1 /4. tsp. paprika . . . Spray
skillet with a non-stick
veg. oil spray. Put all in-
gredients in skillet,- cook
until brown. Equals 4 oz.
potato (1 bread ex-
change.)
Hot Chololate . . . 1
fudgesicle and 4 oz. skim
