American Interest in Israeli Security
Affirmed by Congressional Candidates

A comprehensive poll of Michigan's Congressional candidates, as well as President
Gerald Ford, by the Zionist Organization of Detroit has revealed a strong re-affirmation of
the traditional U.S. support for Israel.
Eleven of the 15 incumbent Congressmen and nine challengers queried responded to the
unique poll conducted by Louis Panush, chairman of the public relations committee of the
ZOD. It was the only poll of its kind undertaken by any district of the Zionist Organization of
America or any other Zionist body.
The 11 in Congressional races responding to the survey included: Dr. Edward Pierce,
Democratic candidate in Ann Arbor; incumbent Gary. Brown (R-Schoolcraft); Dave
Stockman (R-St. Joseph); Harold Sawyer (R-Grand Rapids); incumbent,Bob Traxler (D-Bay
City); incumbent Guy Vander Jagt (R-Cadillac); David Serotkin (R-Mt. Clemens); incumbent
William Brodhead (D-Dist. 17) and Republican challenger James Burdick; incumbent James
Blanchard (D-Dist. 18); and incumbent William Broomfield (R-Dist. 19). Michigan'S candi-
dates for the U.S. Senate, Republican Marvin Esch and Democrat Donald Riegle, and
President Ford responded as well.
All 11 Congressional candidates who responded favored providing Israel with "the
necessary military assistance to maintain her deterrent posture and defense capacity"
