The return of "Fiddler
On The Roof," the most
popular musical ever
presented on Broadway,
with its original star,
Zero Mostel, will open at
the Fisher Theatre on
Oct. 5 for a limited
farewell engagement.
The 1964 musical,
which set a record by
running eight years on
New York's Broadway
and in duplication around

the globe, did more to
create understanding of
the great Yiddish writer,
Sholem Aleichen-i's hu-
manity and warmth in
the non-Jewish world
than any other recent
event.
For information, call
the Fisher Theatre, 873-
4400.

BRUSSELS (JTA) —
Swastikas and anti-
Jewish slogans have been
painted on the wall of a
barracks at Malines, near
Brussels, close to - a
memorial plaque to 26,000
Jews who were confined
there while awaiting de-
portation to the Nazi
death camps during
World War II.
The graffiti were
daubed outside the bar-
racks shortly before a re-
cent pilgrimage there in
memory of the victims.
Speakers recalled how
Belgian citizens saved
the lives of more than
20,000 Jews during the
occupation. ,

TEL AVIV (JTA) —
Eleven West Bank Arabs
were killed and at least
40, including four Israeli
soldiers, were injured re-
cently in one of Israel's
worst road accidents.
A bus carrying West
Bank workers back home
collided head-on with an
army truck on the
Jenin-Meggido road and
both vehicles overturned
into a steep ditch
alongside the road.
Most of the victims
were from the Nablus
area. The injured were
taken to hospitals. Police
are investigating the
cause of the accident.
