LISTENING
POST

SID HUDSON, in town
for his usual short
sojourn from Las Vegas,
tells of the Flamingo
Hotel being torn down for
a new highrise ... Gil Av-
erbuck says Sid has
"squatters rights' . . . .
having lived there since
December, 1946, when it
was opened by "Bugsy"
Siegel.
Life story of Sid is being
written to soon appear in
the 150,000 circulation
Star Magazine of Las
Vegas.
Sid makes a prediction
10 years to come or before
. . . that the world's
champion in tennis will be
a lad named Brett Dic-
kinson . . . now just 10-
years-old, Brett "can't
miss" says Sid.
Gil and son Dr. Fred
Averbuck will go to Israel
Oct. 29 with the UJA
while Gil's wife, Sophie,
goes to Vegas to win
without him.
The foresight of Sid has
proven its mettle many
times . . . especially when
in 1931 he predicted that
Las Vegas will be the place
to go . . . only 9,000 popu-
lation then.
Among regulars when
he comes to Detroit . . .
attorney Al May, Pat Car-
lini . . . dinner with Allan
Gold of Budget Rent-A-
Car in Windsor . . .
Bumped into Morrie
Berkowitz whom he
hadn't seen in 40 years
. . . reminiscing with him
when Sid and Paul Zuc-
kerman used to drive a
truck for Morrie then at
his wholesale grocery in
the Eastern Market . .
remembered when Paul
made Sid ca-rry 200
pounds of sugar on his
back so Paul could hurry
home and make peanut
butter in his garage.
CONGRATS . . . to
Nancy Woll on her 18th
birthday. . . quite a big-
gie . . : voting, niteries,
etc.
"SONNY" MARCUS,
wife of the late Ben Mar-
cus, is in Detroit to wel-
come the last of the fam-
ily of Lobers, a cousin
Chaim "LLY" Lober from
Russia, whom the family
has never seen, as the
rest had perished during
the second World War.
She is here to get per-
mission to take him back
to Florida for a visit and is
staying with daughter
and son-in-law Dr. Jack
and Adrianne Levine and
children in Bloomfield.
Only six cousins are all
that are left and the Rus-
sian cousin makes seven
. . . they will take turns
showing him America for
the next two months.
DR. GERALD WEIN-
GARDEN'S known tale is
about the doctor who
examined a very pretty
new patient carefully,
then beamed, "Mrs.
Jones, I've got good news
for you" . . . The patient

said, "Pardon me doctor,
it's MISS Jones" . . .
"Oh," said the doctor,
"Well, Miss Jones, I've got
bad news for you."
THANKS. . . to Leon
Mandell of Mandell
Specialities for a pen that
lights up to use in the
dark.
ON FRIDAY, JULY 23,
David and Minnie Ber-
man became proud
grandparents twice . . .
At around 5:30 a.m. their
son, Irving, and
daughter-in-law, Marcy,
had a baby boy, Gregory
Jay . . . Thrilled with the"
news, Grandpa Dave and
Grandma Minnie took a
trip to Las Vegas at 10
a.m. for a Vegas-type rest.
While on the flight, an
announcement was made
that they report to the
desk upon their arrival
. . . The news they re-
ceived was the kind with
high odds, "Mazel tov for
the second time today,
Rosanne and Bob had a
girl, Michelle Helana."
The parents are Bob
and Rosanne Barr, their
son-in-law and daughter
. . Of course, that made -
Dave and Minnie "win-
ners" before they even hit
Vegas. Great-grandma
Pearl Gold Hoffman, who
had just returned home
from the hospital follow-
ing major surgery, said
that was the best
medicine she could get.

STORY TOLD by local
Jewish civic leader and
typographer Harvey Wil-
lens . . . about a Martian
landing in the U.S. and
interviewed immediately
. . . When asked if all
Martians had four eyes,
he said "Yes" and pointed
to each of his four eyes in
various place's on his body
. . . "And do you all have
four noses?" he was asked
. . . Again he answered
"Yes" and pointed out
each one . . "And do all
of you have four mouths
too?" . . . Once more the
answer was "Yes" and he
indicated where the four
were located . . . Then he
was asked, "And do you
all wear those little black
caps?" . . . The Martian
replied, "I don't know -
can't speak for the
goyim!" •

DISA 'N DATA . . .
Marvin and Jackie
Posner celebrated their
30th anniversary at the
Aladdin Hotel in Las
Vegas and can't say
enough about it . . Don
Appel wearing a shirt
that is in style, not just
beat up and torn as it may
seem . . . Sam Katz of
American Mailers is
going to send Pat Henry a
bill for using his jokes
during Frank Sinatra's
recent visit to Pine Knob
. . . If driving through
Oak Park, especially on
Oak Park Blvd., watch
out for unmarked squad
cars with radar.
