the first agricultural set-
tlement in Israel under
the auspices of the Con-
servative movement.
The new settlement, lo-
cated in the Negev, will be
conducted on a coopera-
tive basis with the tradi-
tional family structure
maintained and personal
property privately
owned.
The United Synagogue
of America hopes to estab-
lish several additional
moshavim in adjoining
areas. The developments
will be clustered around a
common area which will
service them with educa-
tional, health and other

Immediate plans call
for recruitment of 50
young conservative
Jewish couples.
Dr. and Mrs. Leonard
Pinkas, leading members
of Sde Nitgan after which
the new moshav is mod-
eled, are spearheading
the recruitment drive in
the United States. They
have just completed a
cross-country tour in
which they spoke to sev-
eral synagogue groups.
They advise that each
couple should be pre-
pared to invest about
$15,000, in return for
which they will receive a
house for living quarters,
plus two greenhouses for
the production of- agricul-
tural products for export.
As chairmen of the Un-
ited Synagogue of Israel's
committee to establish a
moshav, Dr. and Mrs.
Pinkas will be the chief
advisers to the group. For

donated all of the profit on 7-Up soft drink products sold
at the store last week to the Jerry Lewis Telethon for
