Bronia Kwartin,
Aided Refugees

NEW YORK - Bronia
Kwartin, who aided Jewish
refugees from Germany in
the late 1930s, died Aug. 27
at age 89.
With the aid of the late
Senator Edwin C. Johnson
of Colorado, Mrs. Kwartin
helped a number of Jewish
families excape from Ger-
many and subsequently
gave them employment in
several 5-and-10-cent stores
she had opened in Denver.
She founded the Denver
Chapter of Hadassah in
1924.

Aid for Elderly

SEATTLE (JTA) - Plans
for a demonstration
program of day care for
elderly Jews who do not
need nursing home care,
proposed by the Jewish
Community Center and the
Family and Aged Com-
mittee of the Seattle Jewish
Federation are currently
under consideration for
joint federal and state fun-
ding.
The adult care program,
in its initial stage, would
provide service to such
elderly persons each
Tuesday, : Thursday and
Sunday, for five hours each
day for 15 persons each day,
according to the Jewish
Center proposal. The
program will use Center
facilities.

Religious Hospital
Open in Natanya

NATANYA - Israeli
religious and government
leaders participated, along
with a representative of
U.S. President Gerald Ford,
in officially launching a new
hospital in Natanya.
It was established and
equipped with the aid of
private and government
sources in Israel, Friends of
Lani,ado Hospital and a -U.S.
aid grant.

Jewish History

DENVER (JTA) -
Documents, records,
photos and personal pap-
ers of important Jews in
the Rocky Mountain re-
gion are being sought for
the new Ira M. Beck
Memorial Collection of
Rocky Mountain Jewish
History, to be housed at
the University of Denver.
The Beck collection, es-
tablished by the gift of
Mrs. Peryle H. Beck of
Denver in memory of her
husband, will be the first
attempt in this region to
collect such items relat-
ing to the rich history of
the Jews in the Rocky
Mountain area, accord-
ing to Dr. Stanley M.
Wagner, director of the
Center for Judaic Studies
at the university.

Hurdles Record

TEL AVIV - Esther
Roth of Israel bettered
her national record in the
100 meter hurdles when
she won the event in an
international track
meet in Berlin in 12.93
seconds.
Mrs. Roth finished
sixth in the Olympic .
Games in Montreal in the
same event, in a time of
13.04.
