Mideast Arms Aid Proposed

WASEINGTON (JTA)
— The Ford Administra-
tion Wednesday gave
Congress proposals to
provide a total of about $5
billion in military equip-
ment and services to Is-
rael, Iran, Pakistan and
Saudi Arabia, the State
Department said.
Department spokes-
man Robert Funseth said
the proposals were being
-made to enable Congress
to have the necessary 30
days for consideration of
the sales before the
scheduled adjournment
Oct. 2 for the Presidential
election campaign.
Funseth pointed out
that the $5 .billion does
not represent the "total
programs for the coun-
tries concerned," but only-
those parts that Congress.

WORRIED ??

may be able to consider in
its present session.
Meanwhile, the State
Department has denied
that Israel is exporting to
South Africa arms and
technology it has acquired
from the United States.
A reporter asked if the
department is "aware"
that Israel is violating
U.S. restrictions on such
exports. Funseth replied
that "Israel has not viol-
ated any restrictions' . of
the transfer clause that is
in all U.S. agreements
with countries receiving
such equipment or
technology.
