THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Friday September 3, 1976 17 • I k rt. Vol Aign;gogot. Attniber. While Metropolitan Detroit has a Jewish population of 25,000 families, 50% of them are not affiliated with any of the existing congregations: This is a disturbing condition considering that inevitably there occur situations in the life of every Jew when the services of the synagogues and their rabbis are needed and received. ReCilizing the problem posed by the large proportion of unaffiliated families, the Orthodox, Conservative and Reform Congregations have formed the Synagogue Council of Greater Detroit to alert the Jews of Metropolitan Detroit to the necessity for every family to rally to a synagogue of its choice. The synagogue is the sacred center of Jewish existence. It insures the survival of our people, for in it our Torah is taught and our moral tradition is cultivated. In America particularly, it is the primary institution which gives meaning to our Jewish identity. Therefore we call upon every Jewish family in the Detroit area to become a member of a synagogue. Every synagogoue expects its members to assume their fair portion of the cost of operation, but no family will be turned away from synagogue membership because of financial limitation. EVERY JEWISH FAMILY IS WELCOME TO A SYNAGOGUE HOME . The Members of the Synagogue Council of Greater Detroit Urge You to JOIN YOUR HOME NOW TEMPLE BETH JACOB Rabbi Jeffrey L.
