Bias Is Revealed
in Johannesburg

JOHANNESBURG
(JTA) — A series of rabid
anti-Israeli articles have
been appearing during
the last several weeks in
Muslim News, an inde-
pendent newspaper pub-
lished in the city of
Athlone on the Cape of
Good Hope.
• Accusing Israel of
"treachery" in its.rescue
of hostages at Uganda's
Entebbe - Airport, the
newspaper stated: "The
Zionists have shown' by
this action and actions in
the past that they will not
hesitate to perpetrate the
most inhuman acts to ful-
fill their aims."
In an editorial, Muslim
News charged Israel with
planning to convert the
Al-Aksa Mosque on
Jerusalem's Temple
Mount, into a synagogue.
In another issue the
newspaper showed two
photographs under the
heading,
"Faces of
Zionist Occuuation."
The caption for one pic-
ture accused Israel of
being a country ruled by
"the law of force which is
inipleinented by guns and
batons, as our picture
shows." The second
showed an Arab.in Nab-
lus "forced to clear a bar-
ricade, put up by Palesti-
nian demonstrators
against the trigger-
-happy and baton wielding
Israeli soldiers."

center of anti-Semitism
in the world" today, Her-
zog accused the UN of
being in effect an obstacle
to any peaceful solution
in the Mideast.
Herzog said that the
Lebanese crisis shows that
the main issue in the
Mideast is not the
Israeli?Arab conflict.
"True, it is an issue of
great importance. But the
Lebanese situation has
placed the whole problem
of the Mideast in a new and
more meaningful perspec-
tive."
Instead, Herzog con-
tinued, the. major prob-
lem facing the world.
today is the torn, "disun-
ited, working at cross
purposes" Arab world.
