NEW YORK (JTA) — The
most intensive effort in the
20-year program by the
Lubavitch Youth Organiza-
tion to enroll children from
homes of little or no Jewish
commitment in Orthodox
day camps and sleepaway
camps brought a record
total of more than 1,200
such children into such
camps this summer.
Funding came from fees
paid by parents and from
Lubavitch scholarships and
funds. Names of the
children, who are usually
not involved in Lubavitch or
other Jewish frameworks,
came from the release time
religious instruction
programs; responses to
advertisements; and from
literature distributed
through the Lubavitch
Mobile Mitzva vans.
A follow-up was planned
with parents of the children
enrolled in the camps to
determine whether parents
could be induced to enroll
their children in Talmudei
Torah and yeshivot for the
coming school year.

A simply terrific kosher
cookbook has come to my
attention. It is called
"Culinary Capers" and is
available from the Heb-
rew Benevolent Society,
c/o Mrs. Graff, 1824 Pats
Lane, Vineland, N.J.
08360. It has an excellent
selection of every type of
food, and all of those I've
tried have been excep-
tionally delicious. Cost of
the book is $6.
Here are two salads
from the book which are
great warm-weather dis-
hes:

3 lbs. raw spinach
6 hard-boiled eggs, cut into
quarters
2 or 3 red onions, thinly sliced
Italian dressing
Carefully wash spinach.
Drain well. Add everything
together and toss.

Summer Salad

Slice:

3 large tomatoes
2 large, peeled cucumbers
2 large onions
Italian dressing
Sweet and sour salad dressing
Layer tomatoes, cucumbers and
onion rings in a bowl. Cover with
equal amounts of dressing. Cover
bowl and marinate in refrigerator
24 to 48 hours. Serve in beds of
lettuce. Serves six.

The following recipe
comes to us from E. J. Op-
penheimer of St. Louis,
Mo., who says that it was
a favorite of his mother.

TEL AVIV ‘(JTA)'
Funeral services were held
for Ernest Eliash and for
Shlomo Weisbach. They
were among the four El Al
passengers killed during the
terrorist attack at Istan-
bul's Yasilkov airport.
The bodies of the two
Israelis were brought back
by an El Al plane from
Istanbul after a 24-hour
delay because Turkish
authorities wanted to con-
duct a second post-mortem
to determine whether they
had been killed by the two
terrorists or by Turkish
police during the gun battle
with the terrorists.

NEW YORK —
Lawyers for Golda Meir
moved in State Supreme
Court in Manhattan to
discontinue her libel suit
against Lev Navrozov.
In a 1974 article in
Commentary magazine,
Navrozov charged that
Mrs. Meir, while Israeli
minister to the Soviet Un-
ion, provided - Stalin- a list
of Soviet Jews who
wished to fight in Israel's
war of independence — a
list later used to perse-
cute those on it.
The author, who has
acted as his own attorney,
said that he would at-
tempt to pursue a
counter-claim, charging
that Mrs. Meir had not
"presented a single proof
to support her denial of
my story" or deposed "a
single document that I
demanded."
