JERUSALEM — Eleven
high school girls ranging
in age from 14 to 17
constituted the first
"graduating class" of a
novel training course for
baby sitters at the Beit
Pomerantz Community
Center in Jerusalem.
The
course
was
developed and taught by
Rachel Ben Yitzhak, a
student and social worker
in the early childhood
course at the Paul
Baerwald School of Social
Work at the Hebrew
University. The course is
part of the Dr. Joseph J.
Schwartz program for
training directors and
senior personnel for
community centers.
Both
the
Paul
Baerwald School and its
Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz
program were founded
and are still supported by
the Joint Distribution
Committee. The Paul
Baerwald School was
built with special
endowment funds and the
Dr. Josepth J. Schwartz
program is financed by..
regular JDC funds, most
of which came from the
United Jewish Appeal.

A Reform step toward
acceptance of• the
Halakha, on its own
terms, could make a be-
ginning toward real
Jewish unity on the es-
sential matters of Jewish
identity and Jewish sur-
vival, the rabbi stated.

The Reform Movement
must re-evaluate its posi-
tion on the Halakha, par-.
ticularly in the areas that
deal with Jewish identity,
conversion and mixed
marriages, for it is im-
perative that they accept
halakhic standards on
this crucial question,
Rabbi Kreitman said.
