Dropsie University Names Perelman Institution's Fourth President
PHILADELPHIA — The
Dropsie University has
named Leon J. Perelman,
an industrialist who
heads a number of man-
ufacturing firms in the
paper industry and is ac-
tive in many communal
endeavors, acting presi-
dent.
Perelman, who was

past president of the Beth
Jacob Schools, and vice
president of the Jewish
National Fund, among
many other affiliations.
He is also the recipient of
the State of Israel Year of
Redemption Award,
Jewish Theological Semi-
nary 80th Anniversary
Citation, Allied Jewish
chairman of the univer-
sity's executive commit-
tee for many years, will
take.office Sept. 1. He suc-
ceeds Dr. Abraham I.
Katsh, who becomes pres-
ident emeritus and con-
tinues his association
with Dropsie as distin-
guished professor.
Perelman was awarded
an honorary degree of
Doctor of Humane Let-
ters by The Dropsie Uni-
versity.
He is a trustee of the

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
The memory of 67 Jews
murdered in the 1929
Hebron massacre was com-
memorated Sunday in the
old Jewish cemetery in
Hebron. The ceremony was
attended by 4,000 people,
among them Ashkenazi
Chief Rabbi Shlomo Goren,
and Ministers Yosef Burg
and Zevulun Hammer.
Following the ceremony, the
participants toured the
Jewish sites in this largest
Arab city in Judaea.
Arab merchants declared
a general strike in protest
against the ceremony.
