Maple and Orchard Lake Rd. in the Orchard Mall? . . . Besides its very fine gourmet Oriental dishes, Rikshaw is really in a very select class when it comes to continental foods of gourmand desire. Our recent visit there was probably the best of all . . . opening up a new area of dining wonder . . . appetizers of hot snow crab claws in a very delectible butter and gar- lic sauce; juicy, tender lamb chops Rikshaw style, marinated in six spices from the world over . . then some veal Rikshiano in a brown butter sauce; veal in lemon butter and the main entree of veal and eggplant parmigiana like we've never had before . . with Chinese spices and vegetables . . . This most delicious dish was a layer of veal and layer of chopped eggplant topped with parmigiana cheese. The service at Rikshaw has always been good, but it is even better now . . . with people like Len E. Miller, son of Bertha and the late Herman Miller, a captain par excellence; very sweet, pleasant hos- tess Leslie Keaton, and waitress in the super class, Kathy Heath, 21/2 years at the Rikshaw, with the very knowledgeable ability of bringing fresh coffee in fresh cups . . plus serving from the right side. Two waitresses and a bartender hadn't shown up, so bossman David Lum worked as waiter, busboy, cook, bartender and whatever else was necessary to maintain the Rikshaw reputation of top service. After our excellent meal, Len E. made us the Rikshaw's famous Crown Jewel dessert . . . five fresh fruits cut up, flamed with various cog- nacs and brandies and put over vanilla ice cream . . . a most elegant dish. People like Mike Hyman eat here at least three times a week be- cause, as he says, Rik- shaw offers such a va- riety of dishes . . . orien- tal, continental, Ameri- can . . . And Mike is typi- cal of so many others who have found Rikshaw Inn to be the exact place they've been looking for. It's sometimes difficult to put into words the way taste buds tingle, but in the case of Rikshaw Inn the words come easy . . . No gimmicks . . . just very good food and service to please the most dis- criminating palate. The Rikshaw Inn may have a lot of things going for it now . . . but not any more than the people who are going for the Rikshaw in larger numbers than ever before. AGAIN, WE REPEAT . . . when you hear a place is for sale, doesn't 1 mean a thing . . . Any- place is for sale if the price is right. GROUP NOW IN ITS second of a nine-week en- gagement at Sheraton- Southfield Hotel's "Yes- terdays," is Expo '77 . . . three guys and a gal with much rhythm, versatility and poise . . . Electric piano, drums and electric guitar; with a charming young vocalist in three- part harmony on many tunes . . . Expo '77s even tempo on songs like "All By Myself" and "Kansas City" is choice . . . but they are best on pops and blues. * * CARRY OUT•• You'll Enjoy Eating at C MONDAY • TUESDAY WEDNESDAY ApItiDUKES SPECIAL DINNERS FisluChips INCLUDES COLE SLAW AND TARTAR SAUCE OPEN MON. Bloomfield Charley's will seat 200 people. Charley's Chuck's Crab, in the Northfield Hilton, Crooks and 1-75, seating 250, will be opened Sept. 15. HAD THAT 12 OZ. broiled New York steak dinner for $5.95 at Red Cedars, Nine Mile and Telegraph, and it was better than ever . . Fine . waitress Bernadette (Be- rnie) Panaretos, brought us the very good piece of meat, plus vegetable soup (or onion if wanted) and salad . . . plus a bottle of rose' wine . . . And who could go to the Red Cedars without having some of that yum yum cheese cake Lenore Freed makes at home for the restaurant . . . Own- ers Jack Freed and Ray Bresler are doing a won- derful job since taking over . . . and the place has been woven into a fine place to go . . . Jose Roijas, guitarist with an electronic drum sideman, came for a week and has been there eight months . . . doing a good job of entertaining in pleasant style. BESS BONNIER TRIO is at the Vineyards, Franklin and Northwest- ern, 'til Aug. 21 . . . Tuesday through Satur- day . . . with Mickey Stein on bass and guitar and Steve Lipson on per- cussion. HAVE YOU TRIED the cottage fries at Jakk's on 10 Mile and 'Greenfield? . . . Now that Berman's is a different operation, Jakks' fries have to rank among the area's tops. REMEMBER DUKE'S FISH and Chips out on the east side? . : . Now Duke decided to go west and with two partners to watch the store has added another spot called Cap'n Dukes on Coolidge, corner 11 Mile.
