Raytheon Tells Opposition
to Anti-Boycott Legislation

NEW YORK — Pepsi
Cola will continue its
boycott of Israel accord-
ing to an article in the
New York Times.
Pepsico chief executive
Donald Kendall said in a
recent interview that the
company had no plans to
expand into the "small,
saturated - Israeli mar-
ket.
Kendall had just re-
turned from a tour of
Pepsi's facilities in Iran,
Saudi Arabia, Jordan and
Egypt. Kendall described
those areas as very im-
portant to Pepsi.
Kendall, as chairman
of the U.S.-sponsored
businessmen's commit-
tee advocating deeper
trade ties with the Soviet
Union, has in the past re-
peatedly chastised the
U.S. Congress for the
Jackson-Vanik legisla-
tion linking improved
emigration and human
rights activities in the
Soviet Union with in-
creased U.S.-Russia
trade.

editorialized in agree-
ment with Raytheon that
certain provisions of the
Massachusetts bill
should be revised.
Raytheon argued that
certain provisions al-
ready covered by U.S.
State Department regu-
lations would have crimi-
nal penalties under the
Massachusetts law.
The company also ar-
gued that certain pro-
visions specified by
foreign countries, such as
shipment in ships of its
own nationality or the
right to exclude foreign
nationals or foreign
suppliers, - was inherent in
some of the contracts. If a
company did not submit to
these stipulations it would
lose the contract.
The spokesman for
Raytheon said the com-
pany has been a frequent
target of criticism be-
cause of a contract it has
with Saudi Arabia. The
company claims it openly
supplies certain products
and services to Israel in
spite of the Saudi con-
tract.
