Council Testimonial Resolution for the businessmen's organization from Coun-
an Clyde Cleveland. City Council President Carl Levin is shown at back row,
er. The club was honored for "outstanding community services."

The Probus Club of De-
troit was honored by the
Detroit City Council with
a testimonial resolution
commending its "out-
standing community ser-
vices."
Among the many
Probus services cited
were the Probus Awards
for Academic Achieve-
ment which every year
since 1963 have honored
two members of the
Wayne State University
faculty "in recognition of
professional and re-
search achievements. -
Appreciation was also
expressed to the organi-
zation for having lent ap-
proximately $35,000 to
deserving students; for
having presented Detroit
hospitals with iron lungs,
blood analyzer machines,
television sets and
Braille book binders; and
for having given assis-
tance to children, vete-
rans and other causes.

Correction

Allen Warsen's article in
last week's Jewish News
(Page 54) contained a mis-
leading typographical error.
Rabbi Oshry's statement
on the question of whether
there was planned sexual
abuse of Jewish women by
the Nazis completely
precedes Prof. Dawidowicz'
answer. The words "Rabbi
Oshry replied" in the piddle
of Mrs. Dawidowicz' state-
ment are misleading and
should have preceded Rabbi
Oshry's statement.

Efforts Gratefully Recalled
on Gus Newman's Birthday

A Gus D. Newman
birthday is always an oc-
casion for community re-
joicing. So respectfully
and affectionately is he
regarded that his com-
munal services are never
forgotten.
When he marks his 85th
birthday on Tuesday, his
more than 40 years of de-
dicated labors for many
Jewish causes will be re-
called with gratitude.
Mr. Newman has been
active in Zionist organi-
zations for more than 55
years. He has been a
member of the Detroit
Free Loan Association
for the past 45 years, is a
member of the Hannah
Schloss Old Timers, and is
a past president of the
Jewish Home for Aged
and the Detroit Service
Group.
Mr. Newman's family
has a long history in De-
troit. His grandfather, Ab-
raham .Jacobs, came to De-
troit in 1869 from Eastern
Europe.
Mr. Newman retains
memberships on many
local boards.
