LARGO'S

Danny Raskin's

Deliciously

LISTENING
POST

STATE REPRESENTA-
TIVE Joe Forbes is already
getting used to being a
grandfather . . . although
he isn't one yet . . . Phones
daughter Rita and hubby
Howard Golding and says,
"I called up to take my
grandchild for a ride." . . .
Rita is only in her sixth
month.
WHEN YOU SEE
Sammy Woolf up on the
bandstand, singing with all
he's got . . . from the bot-
tom of his heart to the tip of
his toes . . . it's with a long
time in show business be-
hind each thrill-packed note
. . . The popular music man
and loveable community
personality is commemorat-
ing almost 50 years before
the spotlight . . . Sammy
was featured vocalist with
the Dorsey Brothers Or-
chestra about 30 years ago,
taking over when Bob
Crosby left to form his own
combo . . . He was appear-
ing at Billy's Blue Room in
New Jersey . . . and doing a
benefit show on which
Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey
were also starring . . . They
signed him right then and
there.
AT THEIR 50th anniver-
sary_ party, Max Sosin,
Sammy and Mickey Woolf
and Hal Gordon entertained
for Eva and Hyman Tauber
. . . Mickey is gone, but the
other three will put on a
repeat performance at the
70th, when these two lovely
people repeat their mar-
riage vows at a dinner, Aug.
22, at Cong. Beth Abraham-
Hillel . . . Services in cele-
bration of their wonderful
event will be Aug. 7 at the
synagogue . . . Eva and
Hyman are the parents of
Bea Kaufman, wi'e of Judge
Nathan Kaufman.
ANYBODY GO TO Ham-
tramck High back in 1936?
. . . The January and June
class of that year will have a
reunion at the Polish Cen-
tury Club, Sept. 18.
THANKS FROM . . .
the Jewish Vocational Serv-
ice-Community Workshop,
Southfield office . . . to the
many employers in the com-
munity who supported their
"Summer Jobs for College
Students '76" program . . .
As of July 21, the JVS-CW
staff (Southfield) had
placed 118 college students
for the season, according to
Cal Lefton, counseling su-
pervisor.
39 YEARS AGO, Gil
Feldman tried to date Iris
Baskin three times . . . and
three times she was busy
. . . Finally, Gil got her to
say yes . . . and almost
"killed the deal" when he
said, "Here's my card in
case you want to cancel out"
.. . When they celebrate
their anniversary this year,
it'll be time for reminiscing
. . . and you can be sure
this will be one thing Iris
and Gil can laugh about
now.

Talented stand-up
comic, Dick Lord has been
booked . . . plus a vocal trio
called "The Stylists" . .
and Hal Gordon's band for
dancing.
CONGRATS TO . . .
Jack and Jean Kaufman on
45 years of marital togeth-
erness.
REALTOR JACK POM-
EROY came across a couple
of young lads fighting on a
Southfield office parking lot
. . . One of the boys had the
other on the ground and was
getting in a few solid blows
. . . Pulling the youngster
off, Jack told him he
should't hit the other while
he was down . . . and was
quickly told, "G'way! What
do you think I got him there
for?"
ACCORDING
TO
Jimmy Launce of WJR ra-
dio, it's a scientific fact that
flies will not fly above the
seventh floor of any build-
ing . . . Never heard that
before . . . How does a fly
know which is the seventh
floor?
STILL ONE OF psychia-
trist cousin Dr. Herbert
Raskin's favorites is about
the guy with a slab of sal-
ami around each ear and a
fried egg on his head walk-
ing into a psychiatrist's of-
fice . . . The psychiatrist
asked him, "What's your
trouble?" . . . The goof
smiled, "Nuthin' the matter
with me, doc. I wanna make
an appointment for my
brother."
LOOKING BACK On
Columns Of Yesteryear . . .
Aug. 18, 1967 . . .
"During the recent rioting,
when traveling was a prob-
lem, attorney Henry Baskin
shared a taxicab one early
morning with a gentle little
lady who admitted to 80
years . . . When they
reached her address, Hank
said, "I'm going to see you
safely to the door." . . .
"You positively are not," she
said forcefully, "My hus-
band might be looking."

Composer Stolz
Honored in Eurdpe

VIENNA — Austrian
composer Robert Stolz, who
would have been 95 on Aug.
25, is being honored in a
number of European com-
munities following his
death in the past year.
A Robert Stolz monument
has been unveiled in Vienna
at a new apartment com-
plex. Each of the six build-
ings in the complex is
named after operettas writ-
ten by the famous com-
poser.
The town of Heilbronn,
West Germany has decided
to name a street after Stolz,
and Baden-Baden has com-
missioned a Robert Stolz
monument which will be
unveiled in the fall.
