Dr. David Hyatt offered this thought in an interview following a two-week study tour of the Holy Land spon- sored by the NCCJ. Dr. Hyatt led a contingent of 50 Americans who traveled to Egypt, Jordan and Israel on the seminar. He described as "ridi- culous" both the public con- demnation of the raid by UN Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim and the proposed UN resolution of condemna- tion. "The action which Is- rael took should have been undertaken by a UN anti- terrorist peace-keeping force," he said. He termed Israel's actions "effi- cient," "brilliant," "brave" and "magnif- icent." Dr. Hyatt, whose Passov- er- Easter statement earlier this year cited the "terrible fratricidal civil war in Leba- non as the newest example of what happens when reli- gious hatred is allowed to fester where there exists no respect for religious plural- ism" pointed to Lebanon as an example of what happens when a sovereign nation gives "sanctuary to avowed terrorists." "The falsehood and sham of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) propa- ganda advocating a secular democratic state of Pales- tine (all of Israel and Jor- dan) where Moslems, Chris- tians and Jews could purportedly live peaceably side by side, has been totally discredited by the PLO's vi- olent and murderous efforts to commit genocide against the Lebanese Christians," said Dr. Hyatt. Belt Shean Center for Aged Opened NEW YORK — A center for the aged in Beit Shean providing community serv- ices for some 400 elderly residents of the city has been opened with the finan- cial support of Eshel, the Association for the Plan- ning and Development of Services for Aged in Israel. The new center is the first of a number of services pro- jected for Beit Shean whose elderly citizens consist largely of immigrants from North Africa who reached the country at a compara- tively late age and who have not yet been socially ab- sorbed in Israeli society. The center will provide the elderly with a number of badly needed services in- cluding household help, medical care and social, cul- tural and recreational activ- ities.
