Lebanese exchange their
tobacco crops for tractor
spare parts and other items
obtainable only in Israel.
The majority of Lebanese
coming to Israel do so for
medical reasons. Israeli
clinics in Metullah and
Donev, near the border,
have treated about 2,800
Lebanese citizens in recent
months.
They were established
specifically for the benefit
of Lebanese who were
deprived of medical atten-
tion in their own country
because of the civil war.
Originally, Israel offered
medical treatment to
Lebanese civilians who
sustained wounds in the
fighting, but most of the pa-
tients now crossing the bor-
der come for treatment of
various ailments and non-

TEL AVIV — The most
elegant and luxurious hotel
in Berne, Switzerland is one
of the latest targets of the
Arab boycott.
The reason for the boycott
of the Bellevue Palace Hotel
is the non-Jewish manager,
Jost Schmid, a third-genera-
tion hotelier who heads the
Swiss branch of Israel's Sol-
diers' Welfare Association.
An enthusiastic supporter
of Israel, he has visited Is-
rael 13 times since 1970 and
he has even studied Hebrew.
Arab boycotters will
miss the grand-style hotel,
which is the "In" place for
diplomats, crowned heads,
government leaders and
knowledgeable travellers.
The Bellevue Palace has
up to now been the chosen
site for official Arab recep-
tions and gala dinners,
and visits from kings and
sheikhs.
Schmid is also a member
of the Swiss-Israel Friend-
ship Association and has
talked most of Berne's cler-
gymen into joining.

LONDON (JTA) — The
little known connection be-
tween Sigmund Freud and
the Hebrew University of
Jerusalem was publicly ac-
knowledged in London when
the university made a pres-
entation to his daughter,
Dr. Anna Freud, the famous
child psychologist.
A scroll, referring to
Anna Freud's contribution
to the world of learning and
science, was handed to her
by London University Pro-
fessor Sir Ernst Combrich,
who had first known her in
pre-war Vienna.
However, in her response,
80-year-old Dr. Freud made
it clear that she regarded
the ceremony as a long-be-
lated gesture to her father
who, with Albert Einstein,
was one of the university's
first governors in 1925
.

Six rabbis representing con-
gregations that existed in
the Colonies when the
United States declared its
independence two centuries
ago, presented President
Ford with the gift of an an-
cient shofar and a letter
reaffirming the loyalty of
American Jews to the na-
tion and their rededication
to the principles of liberty
and justice on which it was
founded. The presentation
was made last week at cere-
monies in the Oval Office of
the White House. It was
both a Bicentennial tribute
and a personal gift to the
President who marked his
63rd birthday today.
