Samuel Friedman, Former
Steel Industry Figure Dies

Samuel Friedman, a
prominent figure in the
steel industry in Detroit and
Cleveland, died July 13 in
San Francisco where he
made his home following his
retirement 15 years ago.
Born in Oil City, Pa., Mr.
Friedman established a rep-
utation as a philanthropist
while in Detroit. Among the
institutions supported are
Sinai Hospital of Detroit,
where he established the
Samuel and Isabelle Fried-
man Laboratory wing;
Camp Tamarack at Orton-
vill where he endowed the
and Isabelle Fried-
_ Auditorium and
Chapel, the Samuel and Isa-
belle Friedman Animal
Farm and the Samuel and
Isabelle Friedman Water-
front in Silverman Village.
In Israel Mr. Friedman
established the Hatzov Vil-
lage, a unit at Hadassah
Hospital, a unit at Hebrew
University, a school of
agronomy and animal hus-
bandry at Technion, a
school of nuclear physics for
' ORT on the Hebrew Univer-
sity campus and a forest un-
der the auspices of the Jew-
ish National Fund. He

by his wife, Isabelle; a
brother, Maurice of Shaker
Heights, Ohio; five sisters-
in-law, nieces and nephews.
