Jewish Women
Print Magazine

NEW YORK (JTA) — Lil-
ith Magazine, a new quar-
terly dedicated to "ex-
ploring the world of the
Jewish woman" has pub-
lished its first issue here.
The magazine, the only
independent Jewish wom-
en's magazine in North
America, is named for
Adams' legendary first com-
panion and co-equal, origi-
nally "the embodiment of
independent womanhood."
Lilith is a non-profit
venture started by a group
of Jewish women journal-
ists headquartered at 500
E. 63 St. It is sold by sub-
scription at $6 a year and
on selected newsstands.
The executive editor is
Susan Weidman Schnei-
der, originally from Win-
nipeg.
Lilith's goal, its editors
state, "is to foster discus-
sion of Jewish women's is-
sues and put them on the
agenda of the Jewish com-
munity." The magazine in-
tends to serve as an "on-
going forum" for exploring
Jewish women's concerns,
conflicts, experiences and
history, and plans to devote
special issues to the Jewish
family, the Holocaust and
Israeli women.

signed the declaration of
Madrid, Dec. 17, 1974, in-
dicating their intention to
join the bank once their
parliamentary procedures
could be accomplished.
Austria, Italy and The
Netherlands also signed
the declaration and they
are expected to become
bank members shortly.
Since then, France an-
nounced its intention to
join.
Israel's input of $9,-
988,522 is the smallest of
the contributions to be
made by the nine new mem-
members and the four oth-
ers slated to join. The total
contributions of the 13
countries is approximately
$880 million.

Rabin Sees Link in Bicentennial
and Hostage Rescue in Uganda

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Premier Yitzhak Rabin said
this week that Israel and
the United States share a
common heritage that rises
from a common source. He
warned America, however,
against isolationism and
stressed that Israel must be
prepared to defend its in-
dependence by itself.
Referring to the Uganda
rescue mission that was ac-
complished on the eve of the
200th anniversary of
American independence,
Rabin declared, "I feel that
there is a deep link of con-
tent and symbol between
the two events that took
place on that date. Both
express the essence of the
contents of the Zionist and
American revolutions."
Likud leader Menachem
Begin, speaking for the
opposition, praised the
U.S. He used the occasion
to urge the U.S. to move its
embassy from Tel Aviv to

Jerusalem which he
described as "the most an-
cient capital in the world
but the only capital in
which the ambassador of
the U.S. does not reside
permanently."
Meanwhile, a month-lung
Bicentennial exhibition was
opened at the Hebrew
University in the presence
of the Deputy Chief of Mis-
sion at the U.S. Embassy,
Thomas Dunnigan, faculty
and administrative staff
and invited guests. The ex-
hibition, titled "Proclaim
Liberty Throughout the
Land" was assembled with
the assistance of the Jacob
and Hilda Blaustein f da-
tion.
