ceased functioning as such
and a new private welfare
agency, Bayit L'Kol Yeled,
(A Home for Every Child)
was founded.
The agency is the overall
supervisory body for the
foster homes and lays stress
on preventive care while
making efforts to avoid re-
moving the babies from
their families whenever pos-
sible.

Found Desecrated

PARIS (JTA) — The
Cannes Synagogue, one of
the largest on the Cote
d'Azur, was desecrated re-
cently. This was the third
time it has happened. The
previous occasions were im-
mediately after the Six-Day
,War and the yomf Kippur,
War.

Philanthropist Goodman
is doing his share to improve
the ethical tone of our na-
tion. We are all in his debt.

JERUSALEM — El Al
Israel Airlines announced
last week that it has decided
to begin charter flight oper-
ations, particularly from
Scandinavia.
El Al's general manager
Mordechai Ben-Ari made
the announcement at a mee-
ting in Jerusalem of the Is-
rael Tourist Ministry's rep-
resentatives in Europe.
Ben-Ari in the past has
been a major opponent of El
Al charter flights, claiming
they would harm Israel's
tourist trade and endanger
her aviation accords with
other countries.

HAIFA — Over 100 board
members and observers
from Technion societies ar-
ound the world met at Tech-
nion City for the formal
opening session of the an-
nual board of governors
meeting of the Technion-Is-
rael Institute of Technology,
under the chairmanship of
Evelyn de Rothschild of
London.
A ceremony marking the
laying of the fouridation
stone for the Louis and Bess
Stein Food Engineering
Building was also con-
ducted.
The building, named in
honor of the Stein family of
Philadelphia, will be con-
structed with the help of
Louis Stein and members of
the Philadelphia Chapter of
the American Technion So-
ciety.
In other events the
David and Gertrude Kren-
gel Chair in Metallurgy
was inaugurated at the
meeting.
The Krengel Chair in Me-
tallurgy was established
through the American Tech-
nion Society by Theodore
Herzl Krengel of Harvey,
Ill., in memory of his par-
ents.
In a ceremony which was
conducted by de Rothschild
the title of honorary fellow
was awarded to Joseph G.
Riesman of Boston, Eugene
Stearns of Montreal and to
Avraham Lev and Aryeh
Carasso of Israel. LeOn Li-
dow of Los Angeles, was
also named honorary fellow
but conferement was de-
ferred to a later date.

Spertus College
Awarded Grant

CHICAGO — Spertus
College of Judaica of Chi-
cago, a non-denominational
liberal arts college, will re-
ceive a grant for $85,521
from the National Endow-
ment for the Humanities.
Spertus College will develop
an inter-disciplinary curric-
ulum in Holocaust studies,
which will serve as the
model curriculum for all
colleges, universities and
theological seminaries in
the United States offering
courses in Holocaust-re-
lated subjects.
