Responding to urgent
calls for support of Israeli
educational agencies as well
as the American Zionist ob-
ligations to assure unstinted
support for Israel in the cru-
cial period of self-defense,
the Zionist Organization of
Detroit has undertaken a
fund-raising campaign to
increase the local contribu-
tions towards the Zionist
Organization of America
projects for the oncoming
year, 5737.
Dr. Theodore Mandel,
president of ZOD, stated in
the announcement of the
new category that the ime-
diate aim will be to increase
the previous $250 standard
of giving by Balfour spon-
sors from $250 to $500.
Dr. Mandel announced
that the co-chairmen for
this year's Balfour Concert,
the annual fund-raising
event of the local Zionist Or-
ganization, to be held Nov. 9
at Ford Auditorium, will be
two former ZOD presidents
and Balfour Concert chair-
men, Dr. Jack Greenberg
and Dr. Joel Hamburger.
Announcement also was
made by Dr. Mandel that
the chairman of the special
committee for the increas-
ing giving task will be
Mrs. I. Walter Silver. Her
co-chairmen are Mrs.
Philip Slomovitz, Mrs. Ira
G. Kaufman, Dr. Maxwell
M. Hoffman and Dr. Ber-
nard Weston.
The kick-off meeting of
workers for the Balfour
Concert will take place Sun-
day morning at the Zionist
Cultural Center. Philip Slo-
movitz, editor and publisher
of The Jewish News, will
speak.
