Israel Gets Little
Benefit from Suez

LOS ANGELES (ZINS)
— The Suez Canal, opened
to navigation a year ago, is
registering notable sudcess,
according to Jack Posy,
Cairo correspondent for the
Los Angeles Times. Posy
reports that 46 Vessels from
various countries use the
canal every day, as com-
pared with an averiage of 60 --
ships daily which used the
canal prior to the Six-Day
War. However, the number
of users is growing and the
revenues are approximately
$400 million. According to a
statement by the adminis-
trator of the canal, Dr.
Ahmed Amer, only 12 ships
carrying cargos to Israel
have used the canal facili-
ties during the last 12
months.

Labor Party Mum
on Dayan's Plans

TEL AVIV (JTA) — La-
bor Party leaders refused to
comment on reports that
former Defense Minister
Moshe Dayan said he would
quit the party and stand for
election next year on an in-
dependent list if the Labor
Party's platform includes a
pledge for far-reaching ter-
ritorial concessions.
Dayan was supposed to
have made that statement
during a private meeting at
his home with members of
the National Religious Par-
ty's Lamifneh section. La-
bor circles said that as long
as Dayan did not confirm
such a statement, they
would not react.
