Rita Hauser, chairman of
the National Lawyers Com-
mittee for Soviet Jewry, and
former U.S. representative
to the UN Commission on
Human Rights, will be the
guest speaker at the annual
dinner of the Detroit Chap-
ter of the American Jewish
Committee, celebrating the
70th anniversary of AJCom-
mittee in the U.S.
Mrs. Hauser is a member
of AJCOmmittee's board of
governors, and was consid-
ered for a U.S. Supreme
Court appointment. She is a
specialist on the Middle
East and has recently writ-
ten a series of articles for
the Wall St. Journal.
An attorney, Mrs. Hauser
received her undergraduate
education at Hunter Col-
lege, her doctorate at the
University of Strasbourg,
France, her LLB from Har-
vard and New York Univer-
sity Law School, and her
French LLB from the Uni-
versity of Paris Law Fac-
ulty. She received highest
honors from all of these
educational institutions.
Specializing in international
law, she is presently a mem-
ber of the Brookings Institu-
tion Study Group on the
Middle East.
She has served on the
U.S. delegation to the 24th
United Nations General
Assembly, the U.S. Advi-
sory Committee on Inter-
national Education and
Cultural Affairs, on the
New York City Board of
Higher Education and is a
member of the Commission
on U.S.-Latin American
Relations.
Marjorie Saulson is chair-
man of the dinner. Co-chair-
man is Rose Kaye. Israeli
Ensemble will perform.
The Detroit Chapter,
whose current president is
Kathleen Straus, has been
in existence for three dec-
ades. Achievements in
Detroit over the years
have included interreli-
gious programs in cooper-
ation with the Catholic
Archdiocese culminating
in a special supplement to
the Michigan Catholic in
November, 1975, heralding
10 yearS progress in Ju-
deo-Christian relations
since Vatican II. -

board positionsin Monday's
elections:
Berkley: G. Vernon Leo-
pold. Farmington: Mervyn
Ross. Oak Park: Leonard
Demack.
West Bloomfield: Jerome
Acker. A three-year, four-
mill increase for general
operating expenses and a
bond proposition to raise
$995,000 to remodel Roosev-
elt Elementary School also
were approved. Three other
propositions were defeated.
Southfield: Zelda Robin-
son. Voters approved a five-
year, 7.15-mill renewal for
general operating expenses
and a five-year, 3.89-mill
increase.
