About 2,500 delegates,
representing 350,000 mem-
bers from over 1,500 chap-
ters and groups throughout
the United States and
Puerto Rico, are expected to
attend the 62nd annual con-
vention.
Founded by Henrietta
Szold in 1912, Hadassah is
the largest Zionist organiza-
tion in the world and spends
millions annually for its
health, educational, voca-
tional, social welfare and
land-redemption programs
in Israel and youth work in
the United States. .
Rose E. Matzkin of Wa-
terbury, Conn. national
president, said that in ad-
dition to hearing reports,
projecting plans, adopting
budgets and participating
in seminars and work-
shops, the delegates will
honor guests and hear ad-

dresses by government
leaders and international
authorities in the fields of
Hadassah's activities —
health, education, youth,
and American and foreign
affairs.
Rosalie Schechter of Har-
rison, N.Y. is national con-
vention chairman, and Syl-
via Doppelt of Hollis, N.Y. is
co-chairman.
Hadassah maintains a
network of medical institu-
tions in Israel providing
healing, teaching and re-
search radiating from its
Hadassah-Hebrew Univer-
sity Medical Center in Ein
Karem, Jerusalem and the
re-opened Hadassah Univer-
sity Hospital, Mount Scou-
pus — in East Jerusalem —
which is a division of the
medical center.
In the United States,
Hadassah conducts an

American affairs program
through which its mem-
bers contribute thousands
of volunteer-hours to
school programs, services
to the aged, and informs
members on vital commu-
nity, state, national, and
international develop-
ments.

NEW YORK — Actress
Elizabeth Taylor was cited
as "artist and humanitar-
ian" by the American Jew-
ish Congress at its 60th an-
niversary dinner in New
York.
Israel Ambassador to the
U.S. Simha Dinitz pre-
sented the actress with a
leather-bound scroll recall-
ing her achievements. In
1973 she founded the Israeli
War Victims' Fund, follow-
ing the Yom Kippur War,
with monies obtained from
an auction of part of her
