Of Every- thing Column. His ability as a descriptive writer when he reports on the restaurants where he dines, and the lav- ish and succulent cuisine he ingests and the bubbly drinks that slakes his thirst, makes one's mouth water, whether it be at a deli or the poshest of the posh . . . but Danny still manages to re- main tall and slim (great metabolism!) CALLING ALL budding singers, dancers, comedi- ans, musicians, etc. It's going to be Talent Night at Angel's Hour Glass out Mc- Nichols Rd. way in Detroit Tuesday night. Angel Panek says, "Who knows? . . . maybe a star will be born!" This has got to be lots of fun. AT THE DROP of a hat I can get my spouse Evelyn to abandon everything to go to the Great Wall in Farm- ington. Host Henry Lum has a new eating adventure for us everytime we get there. We leave the ordering to Henry. THE WONDERS OF Toronto never cease. With each new trip there are new wonders to behold. In the last year, eight new hotels opened their doors to more and more tourists and the clerk at the fabulous new Harbour Castle told me that there are approximately 26,000 rooms in this tourist city to accommodate people who come there from all points of the world's corn- pass. Five new downtown ho- tels have made their debut recently . . . among them are Western International's Hotel Toronto close to the city hall. Chelsea Inn and the Did you know that the finest restaurant in the city is only 15 minutes from where you're hungry. We have Champignons Imperial, Duck Au Grand Marnier, Sweet Breads Madeira, Stuffed Rainbow Trout, as well as entrees of the hearty American fare, generous and juicy steaks. Together with a unique assortment of fine wines, complimented by our carefully blended mushroom appetizers — it's a meal to entice any and all . . . and only 15 minutes from where you're hungry. 10 Mile at Southfield Road — 559-4230 Harbour Castle are at the foot of Bay St. on the waterfront. Guests at the Harbour Castle are treated like royalty in the European tradition. The lower five floors include the lounges and restau- rants, all convention facil- ities and recreational areas that house the all- season pool, health club and games room. Quick meals at the Har- bour Castle are taken from the Peppermill . . . at rea- sonable prices. All the way to the posh and aristocratic Chateauneuf where fine wine and gourmet cuisine are served in an opulent setting. Two other dining areas are the Poseidon and the Lighthouse Revolving Restaurant that specialize in fish and seafood and while dining you can see sailboats, freighters and ferries cruising the lake. A few blocks away is the Spaghetti Factory. For less than $6 two people can en- joy a spaghetti dinner with wine. A warehouse next door to the factory-restau- rant was recently converted into a musical pizza eatery with the unique name, The .Organ Grinder. You can't beat these novel eateries for the price. After a few years we re- visited one of Toronto's most popular year-round resorts — Inn On The Park which is about 20 minutes from downtown. This beau- tiful resort is framed by the 500-acre Wilket Creek Park. Near the Inn is the famous Ontario Science Centre. We had a choice of seven restau- rants at the Inn. From the Cafe de l'Auberge which you must reserve a week in ad- vance to the Buttery where you can savor crepe and egg dishes. A summer "mini- holiday" package runs $56 a person for three days/two nights including breakfast. Visit the casual Harvest Room at the Inn where prices are moderate. Although_ Canada is not noted for a national cuis- ine, • Toronto boasts hundreds of fine dining places usually staffed by European or Oriental chefs. You have a won- derland of ethnic choices. Incidentally, if you have time, stop at London, On- tario which is about half- way to Toronto. London has refurbished itself in the last 10 years and is fast becoming a great place to spend a casual weekend. It is only 120 miles from De- troit. On the outer fringe of London is a new series of enclosed shopping malls which includes the new Holiday Inn-London City Centre Tower. Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge offers a year-round weekend package that costs $49.95, which includes be- sides two adults, two chil- dren under 18. Breakfast for four for two mornings. They call this a family package.
