The Final Days is a portrait of what went on
behind the scenes during the gravest crisis in
the history of the American presidency. In an
enthralling narrative that flashes from one
private discussion to the next, Bob Wood-
ward and Carl Bernstein chronicle the previ-
ously unknown events leading to the resigna-
tion of President Richard M. Nixon. This is
a story you have not read in the newspapers.

New York Rabbi to Speak
at Kollel Institute Dinner
Rabbi Simon Schwab,
rabbinic leader of one of the
largest German-Jewish con-
gregations in the U.S. K'hal
'
Adath Jeshrun in the Wash-
ington Heights area of New
York, will be the guest
speaker at the annual din-
ner for the Kollel Institute
for Advanced Jewish Stud-
ies, 6:30 p.m. Monday at the
Sheraton Southfield Hotel.
Rabbi Schwab left his
native Germany in 1936 and
served for 22 years as spirit-
ual leader at Shearith Israel
Congregation in Baltimore.
He assumed his present
position in 1958. Adath
Jeshrun includes the syn-
agogue, yeshiva elementary
and high schools for boys
and girls, a teachers' semi-
nary for girls and bet hami-
drash for boys. Rabbi
Schwab serves as dean of all
the educational units.
Monday's dinner will
support the work of De-
troit's two-year-old Kollel
Institute, a "miniature
university" where Judiac
subjects are studied. The
Kollel is comprised of
young scholars who are for
the most part graduates of
the Rabbi Aaron Kotler
Institute for Advanced
Learning in. Lakewood,
N.J.
The Kollel concept, of a
place for laymen to study
Torah, traces its lineage
back to the great schools of
learning during the Tal-
mudic era.
A grant from the Nus-
baum Foundation enabled
the Kollel to be formed in
Detroit. Rabbi Shumel
Irons and Rabbi Moshe
Schwab, graduates of the
Rabbi Aaron Kotler Insti-
RABBI SCHWAB
tute, were invited along
with Rabbi Leib Bakst to
head the Kollel.
During the day the young
men continue their intensi-
fied post-graduate studies.
Rabbis Irons and Schwab,
along with a number of
students, give evening lec-
tures on everything from
the fundamentals of Tal-
mudic study to the funda-
mentals of Jewish philoso-
phy.
Lectures are given on dif-
ferent levels so that both the
beginner and those already
acquainted with Talmudic
study can find a course com-
mensurate with their
knowledge. There are also
lectures given for women
held in the homes of com-
munity members.
Those who attend the
lectures are invited to par-
ticipate fully through
questions and discussion.
The lectures are designed
to show the practicality
and pertinency of the To
rah.
For information, write,
call or visit the Kollel Insti-
tute, 15230 Lincoln, Oak
Park, 968-0764.
