gram to strengthen scien-
tific ties between Israel and
South, Africa was an-
nounced in Johannesburg
Tuesday. The program in-

and an annual conference.
Meanwhile, political cir-
cles in Israel flatly denied
today charges that cadres of
Israeli soldiers were train-
ing South African troops.
The issue was raised in the
Knesset Sunday by Marcia
Friedman of the Indepen-
dent Socialist Party.
Ms. Friedman claimed
she had information from a
"reliable source" that
"hundreds" of Israeli sol-
diers were serving as in-
structors at military train-
ing bases in South Africa.
She did not disclose her
source but demanded that
the defense minister con-
firm or deny the report. Of-
ficial sources at the defense
ministry said the allegation
was ridiculous.
