in Israel over attitudes by
his government towards Is-
rael after the approaching
election, President Ford told
Zak, who conferred with
him at the White House last
Friday, to re-assure the Is-
raelis through Maariv with
this statement:
"There will be no change
in the direction and no
change in my dedication in
the objective I have ex-
pressed.
"We need a momentum
in the Middle East and
keep good relations with
the government of Rabin.
There will be no deviation
from the fundementals of
my policy."
Zak told of his visit with
Ford and the President's
statement while on a visit
here during the weekend
with his cousin, Emanuel
Mark, and Mrs. Mark.
When Zak told the Presi-
dent that he was going to
Detroit, the President ad-
vised him to see two men he
viewed important here, Max
M. Fisher and the editor of
The Detroit Jewish News,
and in comment on the lat-
ter he said it was a "a great
newspaper."
