Mt. Clemens Spa
Destroyed by Fire
The old Arethusa Hotel
and Mineral Baths in Mt.
Clemens, at one time a pop-
ular kosher hotel and health
resort, was destroyed in a
three-alarm fire Tuesday
evening that was fought by
fire departments from seven
communities.
The downtown Mt. Cle-
mens landmark had been
closed for several years and
had changed ownership sev-
eral times. The city had
been seeking funds to demo-
lish the old structure and
several other buildings near
its main intersection of Cass
and Gratiot.
It was reported that Mor-
ris Feldman, original owner
and builder of the hotel,
died in a Florida nursing
home only hours before the
fire started.
