TEL AVIV (JTA) — Tues-
day's elections in seven
Arab and Druze villages
brought no changes in the
local political complexion.
Community - sponsored
town council lists won in
two villages — Afr Maor
and Dier El Assad — where
communists already held
the office of mayor.
The Labor Party-sup-
ported incumbent mayor of
Sakhnin Village was re-
elected and a pro-Labor can-
didate also won in Kufr
Kara and Beth Jan.

communists and other
extremists.

`Israel's Survival
Essential to U.S.'

KIAMESHA LAKE, N.Y.
(JTA) — William Scranton,.
the United States Ambassa-
dor to the United Nations,
said Wednesday that the
"survival and security of Is-
rael is absolutely essential"
to the U.S.
Addressing the Bnai
Brith Middle Atlantic Re-
gion's annual convention,
Scranton also said that the
U.S. was determined that
Israel maintain its military
superiority in the Middle
East. But, he added, Israel
should not depend only on
the U.S. for guarantees of
its security.
Discussing possible solu-
tions to the Israeli-Arab
conflict, he said that he op-
posed partition of Jerusa-
lem and that internationali-
zation of the Holy City is
"impossible."
