Moynihan, Herzog to Receive Medals NEW YORK - Prof. Daniel Patrick Moynihan and Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations Chaim Herzog will be the recipi- ents of the 1976 S.Y. Agnon Gold Medals to be presented Wednesday at the dinner sponsored by the American Friends of the Hebrew Uni- versity at the Waldorf-Asto- ria. Herzog and Moynihan, former United States Am- bassador to the U.S., are being recognized for their "courageous and steadfast defense of human rights and dignity, especially dur- ing the General Assembly debate and vote last Novem- ber equating' Zionism with racism." The S.Y. Agnon Gold Medal, named for Israel's first Nobel Laureate, Shmuel Yosef Agnon, is awarded annually to a pub- lic figure who has made an outstanding contribution to educational and cultural life. U.S. Olim Group Criticizes Award Given to Kissinger JERUSALEM (JTA) - A group of American religious olim calling itself "Inter- marriage Crisis Conference" criticized a recent award given by Baltimore's Chizuk Emunah Jewish Congrega- tion to United States Secre- tary of State Henry Kissin- ger. "A Jewish group that honors Kissinger, or any intermarried Jew, should re-examine its basic reason for existence," the "con- ference" stated. The "conference" is headed by Rabbi Noah Weinberg, formerly of New York, who runs a Yeshiva for "Baalei Teshuva" in Je- rusalem's Old City. It in- cludes Orthodox educators and professional people liv- ing in Jerusalem and hailing originally from the U.S. Forest Honors Israeli Educator fi JERUSALEM (JTA) - A 10,000-tree forest was planted recently in honor of veteran Israeli educator, Baruch Ben-Yehuda, former headmaster of Herzliya high school in Tel Aviv. The trees form part of a larger "forest of teachers and pupils" near Maale Ha: hamisha, outside Jerusa- lem. The trees honoring pen-Yehuda were planted with funds collected from pupils around the country. Lincoln Statue Unveiled in Israel TEL AVIV (JTA) - An eight-foot high bronze sta- tue of Abraham Lincoln was unveiled at Ramat Gan in the presence of Premier Yit- zhak Rabin and other digni- taries. The statue, sponsored by Leon Gildesgame, was do- nated to Israel as a gift'from the American people, for- • malized in a special act by both Houses of Congress which was signed by Presi- dent.
