Prof. Megged to Lecture Here

Dr. Matti Megged, writer,
critic, Kabala expert and
dean of humanities and
professor of comparative lit-
erature at Haifa University
will be in Detroit next week
for a series of public lec-
tures.
At 4 p.m. Sunday at the
10 Mile Jewish Commu-
nity Center, Dr. Megged will
speak in Hebrew about
"Zionism as a Social Libera-
tion Movement" at the meet-
ing of the Moadon Ivri —
Hebrew Cultural Club. His
talk will be preceeded at
3:30 p.m. by Nathan Gleiber
discussing in Hebrew Bi-
alik's epic poem "If You
Care to Know".
Dr. Megged will lecture at
Wayne State University
about "Individualism and
Social Commitment in
Modern Hebrew and World
Literature" at 2 p.m. Mon-
day. The lecture is spon-

Dr. Megged will draw on
his vast knowledge in Jew-
ish philosophy and Kabala
as well as on his personal
experiences and discuss
"Zionism as Redemp-
tion." This meetirso is
sponsored by the Detroit
Zionist Federation and the
Labor Zionist Alliance.
Dr. Megged will give a lec-
ture on Becket's "'Waiting
for Godot" to a class at Oak-
land University Tuesday. At
noon Tuesday the Oakland
Room at the Oakland Center
of Oakland University he
will talk about "The Arab in
Modern Israeli Literature."
Prof. Megged is a native
of Poland who emigrated to
Israel in 1926 at the age of 3.
He graduated from Her-
zliya, the first Hebrew high
school in Tel Aviv, and was a
member of the Palmach.
He has earned degrees in
Jewish philosophy, litera-
ture and Kabala from He-
brew University, has pub-
lished several short stories,
books of criticism and arti-
cles, and earned the Ford
Foundation Award for
Young Writers in 1960.
