The first incumbent of the Louis Marshall Chair is Dr. David Kretzmer, a for- mer South African. Louis Marshall was a long-time president of the American Jewish Commit- lee and later became one of the founders of the Jewish Agency. An eminent jurist, he had a great interest in nature and environmental protection. Meanwhile, ground was broken for the Joseph Marguleas Experimental Farm at the Hebrew Uni- versity's Faculty of Agri- culture in Rehovot, in the presence of the Marguleas family of San Francisco, Calif. The 15-acre experiment and demonstration station will make a significant con- tribution to the faculty's' research work in vegetable and fresh fruit production, where far reaching develop- ments have already taken place in the solution of ge- netic and physiological problems involved in grow- ing valuable citrus and off- season crops for export to the world's markets. About 100 faculty mem- bers will be engaged in re- search and demonstration work at the farm, aided by about 200 graduate stu- dents. Attending the ceremony besides the family were Michigan industrialist Sam M. Cohodas and members of the Cohodas family. The experimental farm is established as an integral unit of the faculty of agri- culture by a gift from the Frank W. Heggblade and Joseph Marguleas Founda- tion. It will serve the faculty and through it the state of Israel for observational, ex- perimental and teaching purposes and will help train students who in future will have to deal with practical and theoretical problems of horticulture. Four sections will make up the Experimental Farm: citrus, deciduous fruits (in- cluding grapes and olives), subtropical fruits and veget- ables. Part of the citrus sec- tion will replace orchards which were once located on campus, but had to make room for buildings. WHITEFISH 49 LB.
