Belgians Seeking
Amnesty for Nazis
BRUSSELS (JTA) — A
number of Belgian deputies
and organizations are pre-
paring to draft a measure
calling for amnesty of for-
mer Nazi collaborators sent-
enced after the war for a va-
riety of crimes.
The measure reportedly
would provide for their re-
lease from prison with com-
pensation for the years
spent behind bars and jobs
comparable to those they
had before being sentenced.
Belgian Jewish veterans
organizations and other
groups have called upon the
government to veto the mea-
sure and "not to forget the
past."
