Mastercharge and BankAmericard crimination against Jews were presented last week at the annual shareholders meetings of the Bankers Trust Co. and the Chase Manhattan Corp. The resolution was de- feated at both shareholders meetings. But it gleaned 300,000 votes among Bank- ers Trust shareholders, about five percent of the six million shares voted, which automatically qualifies the resolution for inclusion on the agenda of next year's shareholders meeting, ac- cording to an AJCongress spokesman. He noted that the AJCongress had not solic- ited proxies because of the great expense involved in writing to all stockhold- ers. It entered the meeting with only 100 shares — the proxies for which were assigned by an AJCon- gress member — and emerged with 300,000 votes which constitutes a "victory," the spokesman said. The results of the Chase Manhattan voting were not immediately available. But an identical resolution pre- sented at the shareholdgrs meeting in Boston of the E.G.&G. The AJCongress pre- sented statements at the meetings charging that the respective banks admittedly processed letters of credit from Arab importers which require American exporters to certify that they are in compliance with the boy- cott. They pointed out that this was in violation of a Dec. 12, 1975 directive by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve Sys- tem which stipulated that "The participation of a U.S. bank, even passively, in efforts by foreign na- tionals to effect boycotts Zionism Criticism Expected at UN UNITED NATIONS (JTA) — Israeli sources at the United Nations expect an attack on Zionism this week at the current session of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on the part of extremist Arab countries — like Algeria, Syria and Iraq — which are already on the list of speak- ers for this week. Chaim Herzog, Israel's UN Ambassador, will also address ECOSOC this week, and is expected to answer charges against Zionism and Israel if they are brought up by the Arabs. ADL Gets Exam Date Changed for Observant Jews NEW YORK — Obser- vant Jews were able to take the examination of the Na- tional Board of Chiropractic' Examiners last weekend as a result of schedule modifi- cations obtained by the An- ti-Defamation League of Bnai Brith. Scheduled last weekend in 10 cities around the coun- try, the intensive examina- tions were originally planned to be administered in two parts on April 22 and April 23, until the ADL in- tervened on behalf of candi- dates who complained that April 22 was the last day of Passover. During negotiations with the Chiropractic Board which began last summer, ADL pointed out that a one day postpone- ment would not solve the problem because Sabbath observers would be pre- cluded from taking those portions of the test given on April 24. The board eventually agreed to administer a por- tion of the examination after sundown Saturday and on Sunday, for anyone whose religious conviction prevented writing on the Sabbath.
