The accompanying sand storms and near zero visibil- ity marred the holiday fes- tivities of picnickers and forced the suspension of in- land air traffic. The airports at Eilat an- d Tel Aviv were closed down for several hours and pilots encoun- tered difficulties landing and taking off at Ben-Gur- ion Airport. Folklore Festival Planned in Haifa HAIFA, Israel — About 1,000 performers from 12 countries will present the dances of their homelands at the International Folk- lore Festival which will take place July 22-Aug. 2 in Haifa. The festival will present outstanding folklore groups from such countries as the United States, England, Holland, Finland, Bolivia and Mexico. American Technion Society Names Ex-Detroiter to Post NEW YORK CITY — Louis E. Levitan, former Israel Bonds regional direc- tor in the Western U.S. has been appointed executive vice president of the Ameri- can Technion Society. Levitan has been active in the field of fund raising in behalf of Israel — first for the United Jewish Appeal and, since 1951, for the Is- rael Bonds Drive. He was one of the first to launch the National Israel Bonds campaign and has remained with Israel Bonds since then, serving as asso- ciate director in Los .An- geles, and as director in Winnipeg, Minneapolis, San Francisco and Detroit. In January 1974, he assumed the position of regional di- rector for the Western United States. During World War II, Levitan served in the U.S. Army and became, after the war, U.S. Zone Chief in Germany of the UNRRA Bureau -of Documents, Tracing and Child Search. In this capacity he was instrumental in rescuing a substantial number of Jewish children who had been abducted by the Na- zis.
