JERUSALEM (ZINS) —
Although holding no official
post in government, Golda
Meir now occupies a key
position in the regime by
virtue of her heading the
Special Advisory Committee
to Rabin which was estab-
lished by the Labor Party
(Ma'arakh). The most ob-
vious loser is the Prime Min-
ister, - Yitzhak Rabin, who
until now kept policy reins
in his own hands.
A second loser is Abba
Eban. Golda has not re-
lented in her long-standing
antagonism to the former
Foreign Minister who now
has little or no prospect of
being invited to join the
Cabinet. A third loser is
Defense Minister Shimon
Peres who clashed with
Golda Meir years ago when
he was one of the leaders of
the Rafi faction that split
away from Mapai.
A certain gainer is Is-
rael's Ambassador in Wash-
ington, Simcha Dinitz. Din-
itz's days in Washington
were reportedly numbered
and his political future un-
certain. With Golda back,
there is no longer any ques-
tion about his remaining as
Israel's ambassador in
Washington for at least an-
other year, and that he will
be well placed in the Ma'-
arakh list for the next Knes-
set elections, and be slated
for an important post in any
Labor-led regime of the fu-
ture.
