Winners Named in UHS Contest

The Michigan District fin-
als of the 17th annual Bible
contest were recently held.
In the comprehensive En-
glish division the winners
were Maureen Schreiber,
first place; and Michael
Rhodes, second place. Both
are students at United He-
brew Schools High School.
In the intermediate Hebrew
division, the winners were
Sharon Blumenberg, first
place; and Sidney Steinhart,
second place.

Dancing for Teens

The Jewish Community
Center will sponsor a series
of "rocking and rolling Sat-
urday night spectaculars"
for tweens, 7th-9th grades,
Saturday and April 24; and
for teens, 10th-12th grades,
April 17 and May 1 at the
Maple Rd. Center.
The events will be held
7-10 p.m. West Bloomfield
High School radio station
WBLD-FM will play music
and offer dance contests and
record give-aways.
A shuttle bus will leave
the 10 Mile Center 7:15 p.m.
and leave the main building
at 10 p.m. There is a nom-
inal charge.

KEMPNER, WEISGAL

Former Detroiter Haim
Kempner, who made aliya
in 1974 and is living in Re-
hovot, earned three awards
for helping to ease the inter-
gration of new olim into the
community.
At the Rehovot mayor's
reception for North Ameri-
can olim, Kempner was
awarded a medal and de-
clared a citizen of Rehovot
by Mayor Schmuel Recht-
men. Kempner said this
honor made his klita — in-
tergration into the commu-
nity — complete.
A second honor for Kemp-
ner was his election as na-
tional president of the Asso-
ciation of Americans and
Canadians in Israel, senior
division.
On March 31, Kempner
received a third honor, the
Kaplun Award, "for efforts
on behalf of other olim."

Hillel to Present
Shakespeare Play

Hillel Day School's ninth
grade class will present a
modernized version of Wil-
liam Shakespeare's "A Mid-
summer Night's Dream" in
May as a class fund raising.
Appearing in the play'will
be Michael Thirman, Yonit
Hoffman, David Berkal,
Molly Bindes, David Medow,
Allen Fox, Marcia Tilchin,
Ellen Cash, Barton Charlip
and Adam Baker.
Publicity will be handled
by Michael Thriman and
Karen Freedland. Yonit
Hoffman and Leah Icikson
will oversee the costume and
scenery making.

Beth Moses Youth
Set Study Luncheon

Beth Moses United Syn-
agogue Youth will hold a
study luncheon 9:30 a.m.
Saturday in the Daily
Chapel. Ralph Pdsner will
speak on "Opportunities in
the Civil Service."
The group will join Beth
Shalom USY for a 20's
dance 8:30 p.m. Saturday at
Beth Moses. The movie
"Thoroughly Modern Millie"
will be shown, and there
will be an old fashioned ice
cream parlour.
