Marshall Suburban Dinner
Nets $155,000 in Israel Bonds I

At a recent dinner-dance
hosted by the Detroit Louis
Marshall Suburban Lodge
and Chapter $155,000 was
subscribed in Israel Bonds.
A major purchaser was
the National Bank of South-
field. William Henry of Bev-
erly Hills, NBS president,
presented a check for
$50,000. Albert Farber of
Farmington - and Sam Far-
ber of Southfield, honorees
at the event, accepted the

The Farber brothers
were named "Marshall
Suburban Men of the
Year." Karl Berg of
Southfield presented the
David Ben-Gurion
Awards, on behalf of the

State of Israel."
Israel's Ambassador-At-

Israeli Diplomat to Speak
at Bnai Brith Event for JNF

Ziedan Atashi, Counsellor
of the Permanent Mission of
Israel to the United Na-
tions, will be the guest
speaker at the 10th annual
Bnai Brith Presidents
Brunch 10 a.m. April 25 at
Cong. Beth Abraham-Hillel.
The brunch will be held in
cooperation with the Jewish
National Fund.
Counsellor Atashi is a
Druze, who has served in
the Israel Defense Forces.
He worked among the youth
of the Druze community, in
a program inaugurated by
Histadrut, then was ap-
pointed deputy director gen-
eral of the Arab and Druze
Workers Youth Movement.
He has served on the fac-
ulty of Haifa University.
Atashi was appointed Israel
Consul for Information with
the Consulate General in
New York and served for
three years. Last year he
was named to his present
post.
The Bnai Brith Metro-
politan Councils will
honor their presidents,
David Bittker and Mrs.

Costa Rica Leader Praises Israel

JERUSALEM (JTA) --
Visiting Costa Rican Presi-
dent Daniel Oduber Quiros
warmly praised Israel's
democratic socialism at a
dinner in his honor last
week after addressing a spe-
cial session of the Knesset.
Oduber prasied Israel's
respect for the holy places
in Jerusalem which he had
vipited on a tour guided by
Mayor Teddy Kollek.
He said that just as Costa

inception, it would continue
to back the Jewish state in
its effort to achieve genuine
peace within secure and rec-
ognized borders.

trees will be planted for
each of the 24 lodge presi-
dents and 25 chapter presi-
dents.
The goal of the brunch is
to complete the planting of
the Fourth Detroit Forest of
10,000 trees which will be lo-
cated in the Bnai Brith Mar-
tyrs' Forest in Israel.
Meyer Littky is chairman
of the Metropolitan Detroit
Bnai Brith Martyrs' Forest
Committee and Mrs. Rob-
erta Freedman is chairman
of the Women's Colincil
Tributes Committee.
Admission is by the
planting of two or more
trees per person in Israel.

Pincus Education
Fund Operating

JERUSALEM, (JTA) --
The Pincus Fund for Jewish
Education in the Diaspora
has begun to operate, Max
Fisher, chairman of the
Jewish Agency Board of
Governors announced.
The board mapped out
broad guidelines for the use
of its monies — interest ,
earned from a capital of $5
million. The priorities, offi-
cials said, will be teacher
training, educational mate-
rials and research, and es-
tablishment and expansion
of educational institutions.
Priority will be given to
requests from less well-
served communities — in
South America, Europe, the
Moslem countries and re-
mote Jewish communities.
The late Louis Pincus devel-
oped the idea of an educa-
tion fund shortly before his
death in 1972 and the fund
was later set up bearing his
name.
