Assad-Arafat Rift Brewing?

WASHINGTON (ZINS)
— Experts in Arab affairs
are convinced that tensions
are growing between terror-
ist chief Yasir Arafat and
Syrian President Hafez As-
sad.
According to their view,
Syria's intervention in the
Lebanese civil war brought

.TER
te? role—se'c

p

the Palestinian terrorist
faction, "Saiqa," which is
controlled by the Syrian
army, onto the scene thus
giving Assad a new instru-
ment of power in the Pales-
tinian cause. Also, should
hostilities be resumed they
might lead to the partition-
ing of Lebanon. Under no
circumstances would Assad
welcome the emergence of a
tiny Christian enclave that
would look for its protection
to the Christian countries in
the UN.
